ok so here it is
im currently a doo rider (i know , i know) but from lurking here for a while i know some of you were too, so cut me some slack!!
but am thinking of either upgrading to the XTX or MTN, but unsure of which sled to get
i did some reaindg in this section and it doesnt seem that many dudes are prepping these things for the hills at all
and Yamaha doesnt seem to me Marketing it for that
i know its a "Hybrid" or "Crossover" but wouldnt it rip out west?
i ride a 03.5 Summit 800HO 144
personally i think its the tits...only down fall..re-building the thing
but it has been good and never left me stranded
i do like how easy it is to make it your own, ex: bars, inside wheel kit, blah blah blah....
i surely do not doubt the longevity of the Yamaha engine..their bulletproof
but i like some things about the XTX and some about the MTN, such as:
MTN: adjustability of the bar set up
~has anyone put on MX bars, if so have pics plz?
~having that extra bit of track and bigger lugs, when needed
XTX: the length of the track
~i ride 50/50-half here in the flatlands and 1/2 in the hills
~i dont really like to climb, more boondock and tree riding
~dislike the bar setup and how it doesnt have the same bar riser as the moutain--any suggestions here???
i was thinkning of the XTX w a 1.75" paddle as i read that the 2" wont fit without changing the drivers?
and then chanign the bars out to a MX style like i currently have, but not sure if it can be done??
but i really just dont know..the thought of being able to Turbo later too makes me horny
sorry for the longwinded post, but if im gonna spend $13K +, i wanna make the right decision
thoughts?
MTDream and ttabs i know you came off Summits..how did you find the transition??

You have a number of issues to contend with here.
First off, the engine. The engine of the Nytro rocks. It's a tourque monster and has power available whenever you squeeze the throttle, except on the MTX when you are in the high end of the throttle. The grunt is all down low on the MTX and I think you'll miss the 800 when you are wanting some speed. I think the engine is comparable to an 800, but more so on the short tracks.
Secondly, weight. The MTX is still a little heavy. She'll come in at over 625 wet and with an engine comparable to a 700 in a mountain chassis, you might be a little dissapointed.
Here's the good news. The engines low end grunt and smooth power deliver will definitely impress you. This thing pulls hard without waiting for it to get to 6000RPM. The luxury of being able to turn the key and go is awesome. The sound is much better. Instead of a constant braap in your ears, you have a nice thud out the back.
As for bars, they are just a part. Don't let that sway your decision. You'll definitely want more track than the XTX if you do any climbing at all. The XTX is a trail sled with off-trail abilities. Based on where you ride, I'd say you need a mountain sled that's tolerable on the trail.
I don't think enough is known about the XTX yet to say it will be hill capable. It's certainly not marketed that way. However, like you mentioned if you through a 1.75 and a turbo on there, you have the beginnings of a Polaris Assault minus the high end shocks. From what I have seen the turboed versions of that engine are insane. My only issue with turbo is if it can live up to the reliability of the engine itself.
Tough call for you.

One problem I could see that you would have with the MTX is the track. For around here the paddles are too soft from what I understand. It works well in the soft but not well in setup snow. I would go with a XTX and choose a proper track to suit. Just my two cents.

Goddo, you do make some valid points
i do some climbing to get to some of our secret spots
i can make the REV work pretty good up there, b/c of the power i have w it
i compared the weight difference...
the REV is 483 dry and i think the MTX is 562..but i have dropped about 15-20 lbs. off my REV..so it would be quite noticeable and almost the same weight as an XP
a "turn key" sled would be nice though
now you see my dilema
i have not put much seat time on a Yami yet, as i dont know anyone w one
my one riding buddy had one, but tottaled it off last year
might have to find out when the demo day it
although i absolutely hate our dealer here, i might have to grin and bare it!!
but again, thats a trail test ride, not in the hills
hopefully someone out west will let me take theirs for a rip?
hmm........
