well I dont know yoru "off trail" experience, but I only ride out west here, and had no issues wiht eh ski's they woudl not be the first thing I swapped out...they are pretty close to C&A's...I changed mine to Simmons GenI and noticed minor differences, not enough to really jump up and down about...

but hey that is just Montana Powder adn typically was only 3-4 feet...never got into bottomless 5+ foot stuff...

No issues with the Yamaha MTN skis, in fact I even considered those. It's those pizza cutters that come on the shorties I'm referring to. 5 inch wide and deep keel make for zero floatation.

The XTX comes with the pizza cutters by the looks of the Yamaha gallery. I'd swap those for the MTX skis first and foremost.

ahhh gotcha, just assumed (my mistake) since we were talking comparison of MTX vs. XTX and the XTX has not hit the snow yet, that we were all talking same thing...MTX skiis

Does the mountain ski loose some performance on the trail compared to the trail skis?

Since they have a deeper keel they are more agressive on the trail, im running them on my RTX.
Only downside is heavier steering.

I've been trying to improve the cross-over characteristics of my MTX as well! I've made what I think are some major gains in this direction. However if the XTX 144" had been available last season, I'm positive that one would have been in my shop last season. I'm a 2-year consumer, so this will probaly be my last season on the MTX. The XTX fitted with a 1.75" or 2.0" would suit me just fine.

there's hills in Sakachawan???? thought is was a flatland

Daranello, with comments like this we might have to revoke your "I Am Canadian" banner. Just kidding.

No hills here, head north and there's plenty of deep stuff. We're also 8-10 hrs away from the mountains. Lots of MTX's running around here.

One thing to consider is the skis on the XTX. The Nytro's have a heavier front end then you are used to. I find unless you have wider skis (6 inch or better) that the sled has a hard time starting off or floating in the light snow.

you sure that is not a weight transfer thing from the pathetic rear skid (atleast it is pathetic for guys my size and riding style)[/quote

The stock 5" skis are just not suited for off trail riding. I experienced it 1st hand on my sled. I have an '08 extended to 144"(1.25" ripsaw) and I had problems off trail. Even with the 144" the front end would not float. It was like a bulldozer pushing snow. It would trench like crazy when starting out because the front was anchored. It needs wider skis.

I guessing the Simmons gen 2's and 1.75" backcountry track that I put on this summer will help that.

Xtx hands down. As far as the 08 bulldozing, it would with the Hartman relocation kit cause it puts more ski pressure to the front. I ran my 08 with the Ulmer replacement 144 billit rails on my fx and went to the mountains with great success last winter. Only change I made when mountain riding was going to the mountains skis when I went and sucking the front of the suspension up. The sled handled great and climbed well. Even converted a few people to Yamaha. But the boards suck. The xtx's new board will be great and with the better shocks the sled will be great. When going to the mountains off set the ski bushings and narrow it up for better boondocking

Hey if you are concerned about the riser setup check out muffinworksltd.com I got the riser he makes it looks good and reasonably priced and availible in three heights(I'm 6'2" I got the 6"), but the only thing is I am not sure on the durability of them!!

Enis750, either model you go with your going to love it. Took my 08' XP SummitX 154 to Cooke City last year, had some issues on the trip so rented an 09' MTX. Loved it and had so much fun on it I ordered an 09' MTX. Can't wait to ride it. Smooooooth RELIABLE power.
