I have a really dumb question to ask about the rear shock of the rear suspension I never had mine out on my sled yet, but was wondering if say u have the shock out on the bench and try compressing it should it collapse real easy or should there be alot of tension while compressing it? Does the shock support the rear end or is that done with the springs Just wondering if your riding and u blow the shock will the rear suspension collapse???

not a yamy specialist but here it goes;
-you can remove the front shock of the rear without the suspension collapsing,
-Springs help keep your sled up, remove the springs and the rear suspension goes into the tunnel.
-the shocks is what breaks the bump when you hit one or jump, it can compress and release fast or slowly depending on the setting. the front shock of the rear skid affect the pressure on the front ski's, tighter you compress the spring= more pressure on ski's.
-if your front rear shock is bad you would most likely have all the weight of the sled on your skis which would make it harder to control.
Anybody pitch in if I'm way in the woods with this.....

shocks only isolate the suspension not hold it up. Your shock should have some resistence but move full stroke but extend back out.

Springs hold the sled up so to speak. The shock is there to dampen the bounce from the springs when you hit a bump. Since the xtx rear shock is for compression, the dial on it can make the suspension softer or stiffer. This may not be noticeable on a bench, since dampening forces are dependent on velocity (aka the speed the shock shaft collapses and rebounds back out from the body of the shock). If you push slowly the shock will fully compress and slowly come back out on any of the settings. But try pushing it in very fast and feel the resistance...
With no shock, the rear skid does not collapse. I blew my shock last weekend, and rode almost 300km with no shock. The ride was bouncy, and bottomed very easy since the only thing preventing the skid from compressing was the springs. The sled would slap down hard and bottom on big bumps, and then spring back up equally as hard since there is nothing dampening it! Hope this clears up your questions.

shock
Thanks for the info guys, I was just wondering that if I blew my shock on a trip if i could still ride it, you guys answered my question thanks again. Has anyone found any other brand of shock to fit the xtx rear for a spare shock to take along ,just in case

Re: shock
Kimpex has a gas shock that will fit. It costs a little over $100 in Canada, not sure what you'd pay.
