I just moved from Brimley, MI to Hayward, WI. I have nothing but positive things to say about Chippewa Motors - the dealer I used in MI. I purchased five sleds and a sport bike from them over the last six years, and they are outstanding from sales to service. What can I expect from the Yamaha dealer in Cable, WI? Also, how are the trails in the Hayward area? I heard that power lines were off limits. Any truth to this?

One of my best friends here in Gaylord has nothing but good things to say about chippewa. Hope you find a good dealer over there.

Not sure about the dealer in Cable WI as I haven't been to them. Ave's over in Hurley has been excellent to me on two occasions and his service techs know what's going on. On both occasions I had an issue that needed immediate service, and they not only fitted me in right away, but fixed both issues.
The trails in Cable area are quite good and they regularly groom them. The area recognises the commercial impact of snowmobiling and really go out of their way to make it an enjoyable experience. Some good web sites for the area include www.cable4fun.com and www.haywardlakes.com.
Hope that helps.

Be careful on the RR bed south of Minong. There is a rise in the trail that is not marked. Hitting it at 80+ will prove in fatal results to your sled.

Most of our sledding over the past 30+ years has been out of Cable. Great area with multi choices of trails and riding style. Been mostly Polaris until my Apex. Lakeside Sports (Yamaha) in Cable has always given us excellant service.

It's a little bit of a drive but Larry at North Country Yamaha is a great guy and he knows his stuff. Here is Link for a map to Tomahawk where he is located.

I have dealt with Lakeside in Cable and have had no problem with them.
I purchased a sled from them (so obviously I had good service). I believe the owners name is Tom and the head mechanic is Darrin. Both guys are knowledgeable and seem to be interested in helping you out.
The trail system is fantastic. You can rent homes and cabins from "Bear Country Sports" in Drummond. I have used them in the past and had a good experience.

Thanks for the information. I moved from Brimley, MI, where I believe we received an average of 144" of snow per year. Any idea as to the average annual snow fall in Hayward, Cable and the surrounding area?

According the map, about 55 inches. The northern part of Sawyer County, especially the northeast corner, gets more snow. The Cable/Hayward area has had 4 really tough seasons in row with multiple winter thaws and low snow conditions. I have ridden the area many times and when they have good snow, most people really enjoy their extensive trail network.
You won't have to trailer very far though if conditions aren't good in Cable. Head up to Hurley where the average is 160" inches per year. Hurley is less than 2 hours away by car.
