Yamaha disregards common problems

you did not mention hand warmers and it is an issue for many but is easily fixed.(but they should work from the factory)

Can you give me some direction on this one?

Please and thank you!

Radian,

It is a sticky on this forum. It seems like a pretty easy fix witha simple add on controller.

The smart carbs, eh, I have them and my sled has not had an issue. 6k on her now.

Now yamaha told me this year they ahd not heard of a problem with oil pumps on their 97 model 600cc sleds. LOL Yeah that cost 200 dolalrs to fix, and should have been done under warranty back in 97.....but they did not.

Our particular 600cc had a full rebuild due to the rings snagging on a port, and there is documentation of it.

Yamaha makes a very good product, but like was said before nothing can be perfect. I just wish they handled warranty claims a little better. Other brands are better at this part. It does seem new or old machine that all these common issues are something Yamaha has never heard of before.

hand warmers easily fixed with an AFTERMARKET unit ? that is like saying that your new car or new truck doesn't have heater enough to clear the windshield, thus making an unsafe condition and having the manufacturer telling you they had never heard of the problem or that it's within spec! ok, the manufacturer tells you of a company that sells an aftermarket upgrade for your heater, would you think you would HAVE to purchase said unit? HELL NO, you would expect the manufacturer would man-up and fix it so you and your family would be safe and warm on your way to wherever!
there's only 18 or 19 pages of people complaining about their handwarmers!
the exhaust donuts don't seem to go on the older rx sleds with stainless y-pipes, could the titanium be a design flaw or is it within spec?
Don't get me wrong, i absolutely LOVE my APEX but i do expect a little more out of a first rate company with a first rate sled.

Middle of the night, cold, broke down sled, nearly out of gas, women complaining, and a long way to go,a wise old logger gave me this advice:if it has tits, tires, or tracks, it's going to give you problems.

I shouldnt even comment because I just got home from (seemingly often routine) 4hr round trip to the dealer and back because my exhaust went again (2nd time in 4,000 miles). Who the hell is getting 4,000 to 6,000 miles out of their donuts?? Not me, my brother, a bud of mine (who is a TY member) etc. I cant believe some of the posts defending Yamaha. These are $10,000 sleds! But that really isnt my point. I expected "first year model" problems/issues. I bought my sled after the 1st full season (06 leftover). The problems with the Apex I was told about didnt seem to be that big of an issue and figured Yamaha would step up and do a recall of sorts on the handwarmers and idler wheels etc, etc. The exhaust donuts were not an issue yet. Not many people put 3,000+ miles on their sled in one season. Yes, it is correct to say the few occuring issues are not 'big' issues but they are annoying, time taking, mile robbing, and somewhat costly repairs/issues. Shame on me for buying a first year model but shame on Yamaha for not coming out with a fix/recall or admitting there is a problem. Shame on them for continuing to build Apex's (2006-2009) without addressing the issues. If Yamaha would have addressed the issues at hand...I would have gladly spent he money for the fixes.

This is my first Yamaha and I have a very sour taste in my mouth. I have always owned Cat's and the only thing that took me away from AC was the lure of the 4-stroke. Say what you want about AC but I had great luck with AC...and I ride my sleds extemely hard.

95 ZR 700..6,000 miles, gas,oil lube, few idler wheels, clutch, a few exhaust springs.
01 zr600...3,500 miles, gas, oil, lube, flawless. a bud of mine has it and its still running strong.
03 zr900...4,000 miles, gas, oil, lube. bullet proof.
05 F7...3,500 miles, gas, oil, lube...cracked gas tank and a few recalls but AC man'ed up and took care of it.

06 Yamah Apex...over $1,000 in parts and labor in 2 seasons/4,000 miles and presently at the shop for exhaust issues again.

I called and tt the Yamaha customer service dept/rep. She said again that they were unaware of issues with exhaust?? I 'then' told her this is my second problem and only 1,000 miles after the first issue. She apoligized for the problem with the sled and said she would take a notes of it and have the dealer contacted.

This thread was not about if Yamaha builds a good sled or not (and Yamaha does build a good sled). Yes, every sled has its issues but this thread was about Yamaha admitting, stepping up and addressing (known)issues which they have not done...yet?

Could you imagine if My seat warmers on my Audi turn off whenever I hit the brakes or let off the gas.....those germans would kill themselfs.

[If you don't like some aspect of the sled change it, I you feel you don't want to change it don't buy it! How long did it take General motors to relize they had a "design flaw" in the location of their fuel tanks! The reality is if the stakes are not high enough things will not change on mass produced items. simple economics. Just my vent with all the negativity lately. Need some snow so i can get away from this site for a while!

Yeah, we all need some therapy for our sensitive side. Why is it that all kinds of bells and alarms sound here whenever someone breathes a little negativity about Yamaha? This is the best site hands down - but a guy should be able to ask an honest question w/o getting jumped on.

Surely you can't be comparing Yamaha to GM though? Wouldn't Yamaha be insulted by that?
