yesterday I went to my yamaha dealer and picked up an oil filter. I told him its for a 2007 yamaha Nytro snowmobile so he went and I bought the part he gave me. I then went to advance auto parts and brought the filter in with me to get the right oil filter wrench.

I'm in the process of doing the oil change now and when I place the oil filter wrench that I just purchased onto the oil filter already on my sled its to small. Since this filter wrench fits on the one the dealer sold me did he sell me the wrong oil filter?

I've looked all over and cant find the oil filter part number thats for my sled and yamaha brand.

He sold me oil filter part number Yamaha 5GH-13440-00

do I need a different oil filter than this one? seams as thought the wrench should fit the oil filter that's on my sled just like it fits the oil filter the dealer just sold me and it doesn't. Something doesn't seam wright. Need help asap please. Thank you in advance

TrailxRider - The proper filter for your application is a 5DM-13440-00-00. The 5GH number is for the 4 cylinder sleds (RX-1/Apex). Take that filter back and get the 5DM style - unfortunately you will also need to take back the filter wrench as it is a different size and the 5DM filter wrench is a little harder to find. If you can't find one at the auto parts store give me a call as we have them in stock if you need one.

thank you very much. I thought he gave me the wrong part when I checked the filter wrench with the one on my sled and it didnt fit. I'm going to see if I can find the K&N 147 filter since my dealer is closed on sundays. I want to get this done while its warm out. Thank you for responding so fast.

Carefull with the wrench.... over tightening it is never good. All my vehicles I put them on hand tight and they are still difficult to remove and you sometimes have to use a wrench.

I prefer the strap type, covers a wider variety, than the socket type.

I agree with all of the above! Wrench for filter removal ONLY! And the strap type is the only way to fly; the one I use is similar to the one pictured below with a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar. They are really great for getting at filters in tight spaces and it will fit the small filter on my sled, all the way up to the big ol' oil filter for the Duramaxx.
