Does anyone have pictures of a red Yamaha rear skid plate installed?

if its going on a '15 it will overlay the white 1.25" like shown on the above black sled.
good luck on the install.
took me almost a day, but i made it easily removable, using rivnuts and thread clips where possible. however the '15 has 2 baby factory guards which must be removed and a few steel rivets that must be drilled out as they are in existing locations. I also drilled new holes in the skidplate by the track, as i would rather drill 2 new holes in the plastic skid plate then 2 new holes in my frame.
also doesnt play well with the yami assy front bumper. got it, but it was tedious.

Where is a good place to purchase rivnuts? What thickness did you go with on the rivnuts? The bolt nut system just isn't going to work.

the rivnuts are and arent the hot setup. i bought the kit(cheap) at harbour freight, and the rivnuts that come with the tool only grip thin material, its like a rivet and has a certain grip range based on thickness of material you want to use. i used these rivets for the center rear 2 by the track/heatexchanger, and the 2 outside running board locations. i used 1/4 x 20 thread rivnuts here, from the kit, worked great in aluminum.
by the brake rotor, front location, i used 1/4x20 thread clips(like a small paper clip with a thread barrel) I also REUSED the stock rear brake guard(in the footwell) thread clip, and i stuck the clip to the skid plate and threaded the torx screw down, like the factory did into their gay guard.
I also used 1/4x20 clips in the front corner of the clutch area, theres a small black plastic piece riveted on the inside of the stock outer cover, i cliped the clip to the black piece, then threaded in from the outside. the other 2 holes in this location, i used 8x32 rivnuts from the INSIDE of the clutch area...so the flange is inside the stock covers, and even if the grip of the rivnut fails, the flange head will still hold it from pulling out. rotation may be a issue on removal, but once i can find longer rivnuts, the 4 i used in plastic will be replaced. tried washers and everything, the plastic is just too thick to grip right, it should peeen over outside the plastic, or the washer i tried to use, instead it peens inside the hole in the plastic, getting a weak friction fit. couldnt find a source for these outside the harbour kit.
also should mention i used harbour freights stainless screw assortment and provided me with just enough 1" 1/4x20 screws and 1" 8x32 screws to finish the job!
on the other side, i used 2 more 1/4x20 clips by the chaincase, and the other 3 are rivnuts from the inside. doing them from the inside will require exhaust removal.
I hope to find rivnuts of proper grip length, 5/16" or better and swap the few out i used in plastic.
not very happy about ARCTIC CRAPS installation method on the stock bottom skid, or the fact i have to reuse a few of the SHEETMETAL screws run into my aluminum frame. i can really see those staying in there for 8-9k miles and a oil change every year.

mcmaster carr carries rivnuts of assorted lengths, and special ones for plastics. most rivnuts are used where the material is TOO thin to tap, so that explains my grip issue.
problem solved!
im probably going to order the rivnuts for plastic, grip range up to .280, or the ones gripping from .250-.500
they also offer them in metric, possibly allowing the use of the hex head screws yamaha supplies with the skidplate!

Is a sticky on how to make your skid permanent.Cut Access plate for oil change. I really like that method. These are definitely a big job to install nice. But definitely should be first mod you do if you ever even go ten ft off trail or early and late riding. I really regret not doing it day one and my sled shows results as do others. Great investment!
