ok so i have ran a few threads on here about the apex and really like it. and i know this is a yamaha forum obviously but have also been looking at a few ski doos like the mxz 800r and the 800 xpx. please give me info that is worth having not just favoring yamaha

I can't see comparing a 4-stroke Yamaha to a 2-stroke Ski-Doo, I can see if you want to compare the Yamaha to the 4-stroke Ski-Doo but either you want a 4-stroke or you don't. Make that decision then choose from the available sleds on the market.

I drove an 08 Ski-Doo 800R Renegade last year and loved the power but felt it was still typical 2-stroke and the power was only down low. It still didn't have a wide flat powerband that gives you instant acceleration at any rpm like my 4-stroke RX-1 does. I can't stand riding 2-strokes anymore, I love the 4-stroke characteristics.

I was lucky last February to actually go sledding with two buddies who just bought new sleds and had broken them in - 1000 on each sled. 800 SkiDoo and Apex. We spent the afternoon testing each sled and I ended up buying a new Apex the next day. I really thought that they were very close in many of the tests we did like 0-100km, flat out, cornering, braking general handling, comfort. I found that in the top end, the Apex had about 4 mph on the top end than the SkiDoo and going from 100km to flatout, it beat the Skidoo all the way. It didnt blow it away but it was always ahead of it by a handful of sledslengths. The other areas were close.

The thing I liked about the Apex was how that thing sounded or should I say, roared. Its somewhat exhilerating! I also love the power and responsiveness acceleration when you hold it down at 130km.. incredible

I went from an Arctic Cat 2007 F5 (500cc) to the Apex and although the Cat rides so so so much better, I dont miss adding and carrying oil, worrying about blowing the engine when I hold it out at top speeds for long periods of time and the poor workmanship of the AC 2 strokes. Also saving a few dollars each time at the pump when we fill up isnt too bad either.

It is hard to beat XP chasis in ride and handling.

The XP 800 is a great handling lightweigth chassis. In my opinion, the stock clutching on the XP is horrible very flat. I prefer the power, pull of the Apex. The XP is a great bump sled its hard to beat. Ski-doo can't touch Yamaha fit and finish and reliable or waranty availablity! I rode Ski-doo for years before switching to Yami! I really like the 4 stroke Doo but there are know clutching issues that left my cousin stranded in the woods. There is a bulletin out on this but its not really a fix to the problem more of a band aid, you really need to pony up some money to fix it correctly.

I guess you really won't go wrong with either choice its all in rider perference!

Well its the age old question - its like asking somebody how she was in bed. Everybodies tastes are different.

What work for one guy sucks for the next. I have ridden everysled that Yamaha builds and Ski-doo builds and they are like night & day apart. Both have their issues and if your a serious rider will not be satisfied with either stock out of the box.

It is a long learning curve getting to know a brand and what to do to make them better. In the Yammis your always facing the same issues - shocks, skis, sway bars, rear skid failures............ but once you ride one that is set up for your style - they gotta pry you off the thing.

I usually ride untill I can't get anymore gas :4STroke:

Although IMO sleeping with a chick never "sucks" -- it's like beer, some brands are better than others, but none "suck," right !?!?!?

:tg: :tg: :tg: :tg: :tg: :tg: ;)!

I just bought an 08 Nytro RTX with boost so I haven't had a chance to ride it yet for an honest comparison with my 09 XP 800r X. I love the ride and flickability of my XP so I'm hoping that the Nytro will be somewhere close to the XP in handling and if not maybe the HP will make up for it. I'll do some back to back riding and see what happens. I need snow.

I like 'modability' in a sled in terms of adding power, ride, looks, etc and you cant compare a yamaha boosted vs a pipekit on a 800xp.

I like XP's though they seem to be fun to ride and more power then most of the sane riders need.

Tey them both and make a decsion. Have fun
