Thinking about a trip out to West Yellowstone to ride. Anyone have any advice or recommendations? Probably going to be next year. Not sure if we want to drive and take sleds or fly and rent. Rent a cabin or stay in hotel? What are your thoughts? Thanks

Did that a few years ago. We were talked out of Yellow Stone because of all B S with law.

We drove two trucks with eight sleds straight thru, took 21 hours. Lose about 25% power.

The trip was a blast with eight guys in one duplex. The scenery was unbelievable.

If had to do it over I would fly and rent a sled, four days ride like hell.

The trails are better here in Michigan. We had two days with bad trails.

We had some guys that had been there before so it was easy for new guys

It would of tough otherwise.

Jeez...I've read so many threads about going out west over the years! It's on my bucket list...but I'll probably kick the bucket first!

Anyways.....it seems that the majority of the posters over the years have said the best option is to fly/drive then rent sleds out there.

Hi yamahaguy, I'll start with saying that my wife and I are new to snowmobiling (3 years) and loving every minute of it. We live in WA state and have driven to West Yellowstone twice for our winter vacation. We did bring our own sleds, however rentals are available in the town of West Yellowstone. Seeing that you are considering coming from Florida, I think it would be far less exspensive to fly and rent them instead. You're talking alot of towing miles with a load, plus lodging and food. The town itself is not big and snowmobiles are allowed to drive on all roads except for the two main roads. I cannot recommend lodging in town as we always stayed 7 miles away at a VRBO. Registration and free maps are readily available in town and the trail system itself is VERY well marked. Two top and Lionshead are two really cool trails. We tried Priest Lake Idaho this year and it was nice, but we think Yellowstone is the nicest. FYI, if you want to ride in "Yellowstone National Park," it is required that it be guided. We did a tour and enjoyed it. If you need more info let me know.
