I have an '03 RX right now and thinking about selling it to get an Apex. The reason why I want to get an Apex is because with all the upgrades that I need to do with this sled like the rear and front suspension, clutching, seat, handlebars, sway bar, skies, carbides, etc. just to get it to perform the way it "should" I just think it would be easier/less expensive to just sell it and get an Apex.
I'm just curious on what you guys think....??

This is just my opinion maybe because I have an 03 yes it would be easy just to buy an apex but will it be set up the way you want or would you have to change things also and as for cost wise if you can do the work your self it helps but you imo anyone can buy a sled not everyone can work on them and there is the best thing of all you can say built not bought people on here help a lot during the build and another thing its paid for or at least it will I see some of these guys in person and I buy them a beer for helping me it will be all the mods they have done seems over welming but do one mod today one mod next month most of them had their sleds for years I'm new here to but I drove mine decided what needs to be done first but only after I rode it and when money is right ill do the next one

X2 just the fuel injection is better. The rider forward is a lot nice to ride with. If you can take one for a ride. We could till you about all the good, but till you ride one will you see what were talking about.

Well I am very mechanically inclined, its what I do for a living, and yes I've rode on '06 Apex and it was AWSOME. Honestly, I hate carburators...Im into fuel injection, with the tunning capabilities of it.
Thanks for the thoughts....would love to hear more from you guys. Thanks

I am new to this forum also and to yamaha sleds. I have always bought used everything, sleds, quads trucks, cars, boats because I can't afford new. I am very mechanicaly inclined which is a major plus because I buy used. It gets to be a huge pain in the a$$ working on all of this stuff all the time. No matter how good of shape things are in when I buy, something always seems to go wrong with it shortly after I purchase them. I realy beleive I just have bad luck.
I just purchased a 03 rx1 from a buddy that was suposed to be checked out ok by a dealer. I never got 100 miles on it and had issues with the rear suspenssion. I have spent around $500 rebuilding the suspennsion and i am still waiting on some of the parts. Some of the parts are even used and it still cost me that much. Not to mention the $300 spent on the apex seat and the $80 on the handle bar riser. I am afraid of what might be next.
If I had the cash to do it I would buy the new apex. Because I would like to spend more time riding that fixing.
But thats just me
edit: As I was installing my new bushing in the skid I noticed that the front shock rod is bent. So there goes another $150-200.
I can't win for loosing

If you want to totally transform your ride switch the skid out to something like this. I've been modding my RX since new. The skid has to be the best mod I've done. Without the ride and transfer I was missing out on the actual power that could be realistically hooked up well. This is the only reason I never upgraded to an Apex. $400.00 that was worth every single penny. No abnormal slider wear either.

What rear skid is that. I have too much into my skid now but in the future I would like to upgrade.
$400 is cheap compaired to what I have into my skid just for bushings and a used pivot arm. I just checked with my local yammy dealer and they want $375 for a new shock. I already have $500 into it before the shock. I wish I would have did some research on here about skid swaps before I started buying parts. I think I will try to find a cheap after market shock to do me for a few years and keep an eye out for a better, cheap, skid.

It's a 2000 136 Mountain Thundercat skid.
A good place to find them used is Snowest. That's where this came from.
It's not too late to cut your losses. Your back will thank you for it and your friends will wonder what you did to your sled to rocket out of the hole like that! The difference in performance cannot be understated!
The nice thing about the Tcat skid is that it is already sprung for the weight of the RX.

Looks identical to the touring 136 skid in the Pantera minus the overload springs. Thundercat skid should get you the rebuildable shocks. I know the touring skid comes with ryde FX shocks.

I can't imagine buying parts from the dealer for something like that. When they tried to charge me $127 for the rubber bellow and plastic slide for one carb, i left and haven't been back. There are enough of these units being parted out and aftermarket manufacturers that you should never have to go get raped at the dealer.

dump the RX for 3500 put in 1500 you have a apex you no nothing about,
Your still going to spend a 1000 on misc. parts to get it perfect,
So do want good, or an APEX, sounds like you have the money, now is a great time to get deals, and sell sleds, but now, not in a month
I just finished my ATTAK GT build, with yamacharger 2400 miles, my warrior with 14000 miles still will smoke most sleds, runs like a champ but its time for a change
