My question would be what would cause such (or any) stator failure ? Excessive electrical loads? Bad voltage regulator? Since owning Yamahas and hearing about stator failures, I have tried to mitigate this by changing the halogen headlights to HID or LED lamps. So far I've been able to avoid...
Wow! This is a new level of destruction. Got the head off. A couple of the head bolts didn't want to come off and I had to use an extractor although I doubt the grenade event had anything to do with it. They were just really tight.
So this motor is completely thrashed. Looks like the...
On the weekend, helped my riding buddy tear down a 2009 MP with a blown motor that he bought for parts. Previous owner had no idea why it blew but did say that he just had it serviced just before it happened. Sad to part this one out as it was in otherwise great shape, even better than his...
Even if you change the gears, it will still rev the same. This is normal for this engine. If you check the RPM of the clutch with a laser tach, you will see it's much lower.
If there is an adjuster, BOP has some adjusters that has an even higher cranking position. I have a set similar to those that were made by Muffin Works but has since closed down. They are useful for 2up riding on my Venture. Also had them on my MP previously...
Did you check for any shorts to ground on the stator? It should be infinite or OL. Also check the AC voltage coming out of the stator on each leg. Each should be like 42V AC and even across each leg.
Wouldn't surprise me if they recalculated shipping because of the price of oil increasing transportation costs. I was going to order some stuff but I may wait for the current situation to subside.
You mean the heat exchanger at the front of the tunnel? Nope. That's your main cooling device. You would probably overheat quick without it for both the cooling it does and the overall system coolant capacity.
The Lo OP message when it's first started, it will show that until oil pressure builds up after running a couple of seconds. It should go out. If it doesn't go out or it appears while riding, then you have an actual oil pressure problem.
Thanks guys for the info and ideas. Ultimately decided to just look for the sled I want instead of Frankensteining it. I'm getting old and realizing I shouldn't get into projects like this anymore. Maybe 5 or 10 years ago I could of. In fact, today I'm not riding on probably our last day of...
That would probably work for me too. The windshield mount would also need to be swapped but that shouldn't be difficult.
One thing I know nothing about is the EXUP. What would be affected by that? Power? ECU codes? Initial search says I'd lose low end power.
I already have all GYTR...
I'd be sad parting out a nice Apex though. Maybe I'll try it as-is. I might like it! I just like the comfort of my Venture, basically a sofa with a backrest and huge windshield.
And then there's the wife factor :hide:
