Potentially but the ones near the clutch should have frogzskinz style vents to prevent that. I'd rather slip a belt for a few seconds in an emergency situation than blow one.

Even unblocked I still don't think that single intake snorkel on the clutch side is capable of providing enough flow to the proper area needed to cool the clutches. For starters it's located ON TOP of the clutch guard!

Snap in round vents are designed for intakes and are from Parts Unlimited: http://www.parts-unlimited.com/products/?productId=462974 I used the 14-197's. There's also the stick on ones like @jonlafon1 posted but I didn't want to take the chance of losing a vent while riding.

I have another round plug style for the front of the side cover that I haven't yet installed, should clean it up a bit.

Are you saying the QAY's are more trail friendly than the DTYA's? If so, why?
