Even if you pull the pan off you don't get to the rod. It's not like the engine in a car. The crankshaft is sandwiched in between the top and bottom half of the block(case). You basically have to pull the motor, and take it completely apart to get to the rods. Fun stuff.

Where did you add the 2 extra wheels exactly? What kind of mounts did you use for those 2 wheels (the doo mounts mentioned in this post)? Are they doo wheels or Poo wheels. I see Polaris 135mm in this post. Or are the POO and DOO wheels the same SHI* (no pun intended).

Anyone have a picture of the plate and dimensions. Are there any bends or just a straight piece of aluminum and some rivets/screws?

That reinforcement "plate" looks pretty flimsy. These subframes need some beefing up. All I hear is people bending them, and it doesn't matter which year 08, 09. 10 etc.

Anyone have a pic with dimensions of the actual piece of aluminum that was bolted up? Pics are good, but I can't really see how the sheet is bent and how long/wide it needs to be. Thanks

Well it's a bit of work getting the motor out. Remove all the plastics on the front. Unbolt the subframe (with steering post a-arms shocks etc), drain coolant and oil. Pull off the coolant and oil hoses, unbolt/unclip wiring. Remove seat and gas tank so you can unbolt the clamps on the...

I think aftermarket companies should figure something out. I'm sure for $200 to $300 someone would come out with some beefy add ons to weld up to make the stock subframe SOLID. I'm sure many people would pull off their subframe and ship it off to get REWORKED and never have to worry about it...

Good job on the ideas. It's great that someone out there is trying to figure out the issues with these sleds. Obviously Yamaha didn't do enough R&D to get it right and cooling was one of the issues.

I have to agree. Every snowmobile has it's issues and unfortunately these are high maintenance machines. We have little tiny motors (displacement) relatively speaking, making big power and we're driving these things on bumpy, icy, hard packed or snowy trails in -20. In -20 things just break...

Once every 12,000 miles, that's longer than the sled will last. Oil and oil filters are cheap, yamaha engine parts are not. Do the math.
