Better brighter pictures today thanks to a big work light.
I'm standing on the right side for most of these shots.
1. Lets start with a wide angle view of everything again...
2. Now lets zoom in on the secondary radiator in the front where you should be able to see the mounting brackets...
Hey Mark,
I took some pictures tonight. Not the best. Tomorrow I'll borrow a friend's big work lite and get some better ones but this will get you started.
1. First and second pictures shows the primary radiator up high on the right, and the secondary radiator on the left at the nose...
I sent Mark a note about this, but for anyone else. I had the install done many years ago at my local dealer - All Around Power in St. Johnsbury, VT. They have done several of these installs for most of their VK Pro owners doing grooming. Besides installing the second radiator there was also...
Did they do anything to improve the cooling. I have the second radiator setup. I have switches to force the fans of both radiators to run and there are still days when it still struggles.
Hey Ron,
That Arctic Cat quad trak looks very cool. Here we are 30 years later we finally have something similar with one of the UTVs with tracks. Many groomers are using Yamaha Grizzlys or Rhinos with Tatou tracks.
How does the quad trak steer? Is it true you lean via body weight or...
Weight post
I finally broke down and added a weight post to the front of my VK Pro.
Now I have already done just about every suspension modification I have heard about related to the VK to get the weight up front.
I use my ski dolly on the back for towing so it takes all the tongue...
New modifications to my VK
I have done two modifications to my VK during the off season. First I had my dealer add a temperature guage.
I have two manual switches to turn on the primary radiator fan and the secondary. I usually just switch them both on when I go out for a grooming run...
It's the 2012 grooming season, we have finally begun hear in Vermont, so time to update the thread. By this time in the year I usually have been out grooming about 20 times. Today I did my first run of the season. We got 4 inches of new snow on top of a hard but minimal base, so I fired up...
While I'm on a 6 hour grooming run, I'm wearing headphones the entire time.
I don't wear a helmet at those slow speeds (under 10mph) while I'm traveling on xc ski trails where I won't find another snowmobiler except at a couple of crossings.
If you can find the right earplug that's...
I have flexi-skis on my VK Pro which have a profile that rides perfectly on a 2x4 and this keeps the carbides off the concrete. So I've made a track through my barn with 2x4s under each ski and it works great.
I'm done for the year also. I brought my VK in for it's year end maintenance the second week in March. The only thing I added this year was a temp guage so I can more closely monitor it.
Otherwise I had another good year grooming with my VK - no problems from start to finish.
I like...
Great tips VKbcnorth!
One other question - how/when do you use reverse to help in getting unstuck?
I've gotten stuck many times while grooming with my VK and I agree there is no way to move the sled.
My other tip is that I stop or change directions the instant I feel I'm about to...
Hey VK540,
That is an extreme test for any snowmobile - grooming with the knives down in 40 degrees. I would never do that to my VK Pro.
As a general rule of thumb - when it's above freezing I'm not grooming. You might have been able to tear up the top surface, but it will probably...
Well the heat of my barn cleans them after every grooming run.
And yes I think the ice buildup is significant. After about 5 hours somedays I can not only hear the track bumping against something, but I can also feel it under the seat. When that happens I get back to the barn quickly.
Nice updates. I wish that company was closer.
The pictures from your link showed a couple other things: snow scratchers way up at the front suspension and left hand throttle.
Any idea how much it cost parts and labor to do the exhaust conversion and the suspension updates?
Hey Frank,
My VK Pro is running fine. Pretty reliable grooming machine now. We started out with a slow December in terms of snow, but January and Feb are making up for that. I've been out grooming 15 times, about every other day since the beginning of Jan. Riding mostly with 2 to 4 inches...
Thanks, I'll try that next year. Or maybe next month the way things are going. I have groomed only three times so far this winter here in Vermont. We had a "January thaw" around the 1st and lost almost our entire base - all 2 inches of it. Right now we have about 3 inches of loose snow on...
