0-20W Synthetic, is it safe?

I've always used Mobil 1 since day one in my silverado. It now has 165,000 miles and NOT ONE PROBLEM. However. . . I know that our sleds are completely different animals so I will be switching to Redline 5W-20 in my Apex. I want good protection for my engine, but I won't be putting over 10,000 miles on it before it's time for a newer sled anyway. So . . . I want any HP increase I can get (within reason). That's why I will be using 5W-20 intsead of 30 or 40.
I would like to go with the Redline lightweight gear oil too. What viscosity are you using????

Anyone know anything about klotz.. I was looking at this today. Its not an 0w20 but its an 0w30, might be good for the guys who dont want to go as light as 0w20 but want lighter than ow40.

im guessing the klotz has higher amts of zinc/phos since its always been a hi end type oil....but id be sure to check it out.

if it were me and i wanted a 30 weight,id run the redline 0w30 or 5w30 instead though, since we know how good it is.

go here:
http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=8

this is what ive run since 06 in my rtx...Film thickness greater than an SAE 75W140, yet low fluid friction like 80W gear oil or 30W motor oil

I found on the tech section on the klotz site that it states they have "generous amounts of zinc and phospherous" but did not tell how much. I emailed them to see if they will tell me the amounts... If they do I will post it here. I can get the klotz close to home and I think its good oil, maybe I'll run that this year... I cant make up my mind....

This is the response I got from Klotz when asked what the zddp content was in their Estorlin snowX4 ow30 motor oil

There is 1800 ppm in the estorlin snow x 4

I think im gunna go with the klotz. Its a proven oil company whith years of experience, well known in the racing industry. Looks like they have lots of zddp in this oil. Its lighter than the amsoil 0w40 and a little heavier than the 0w20. Its designed for the sled motors. I think it will make a great oil...

1800 ppm is very good. More zinc then in most 20w50 racing oils. Nascars run a 0w0 for qualifing due to very little resistance. Just like why the OEM car industry has gone to 5w20. It works great on the dyno for fuel milage.

If your a drag racer and 1 horsepower or 2 is worth shortening the life of motor.... go for it. For the average guy stick with a quality (Castrol, Mobil, Kendall, Texaco) 0w30

I also wouldn't use Klotz if I had a gun to my head. We can stay away from the gimmics now that we're on 4 strokes and can buy oil from the pro's

1800 ppm is good but in no way is it more then RACE 20/50s...those have upwards of 2400 in most every oil i researched in race oil.

there is no way a 20 weight oil shortens the lifespan of your motor, you should check out all the independant testing out there before making that statement....a good 20 weight can hold up just as good as a 40 weight.

I personally would also choose something other then klotz just because when you can get redline or amsoil id much rather go with those.

in the end,oil is gonna be very subjective and you gotta just go with what you like.

but one fact is,lighter oil makes more HP and speed,so i know what i like.

I've only heard good things about klotz from the racers Ive talked to.. Why do you guys think klotz is inferior to amsoil?? Its about the same price and has been around for a while. Any particular reason you guys say I should stay away from it..

Klotz makes some really good lubricants,i use there clutch oil in my drag banshee for a few years now its been great for my set-up.there engine oil is just as good im sure.you will be just fine running klotz in your machine.how much $ for a quart. :yam:

I think it was $12.95 so its def. not cheap. I know lot of guys who run knotz 2 stroke oil and like it. I don't know much about their 4 stroke oil but from what I have read its good stuff.

RTXRox, Why do you say you "wouldn't run klotz if you had a gun to your head" Thats a pretty strong statement against it. Any particular reason?? You know something we don't???
