03 rx1 fuel being sucked into crankcase or oil tank

my rx1 sat all summer covered up and i pulled it into the shop to get it ready for winter and it took a while to start and when it did the crank breather hose started spiting out gas and oil so i cleaned the carbs and changed the oil and it did the same thing anyone have any ideas of what it could be

Is this a boosted sled?? How many miles?? You could have a problems with the rings... maybe try some ring free unless you have damage from being boosted if thats the case.
 
Although I have never had a carbed yamaha, the old Poo's used tho get worn needle and seats with some miles....that would tend to flood out the machine.
 
The float in one of the carbs could be stuck, not shutting off the fuel flow.
 
its not boosted just a stock rx1 its not the air box or the carbs could one of breathers be plugged or something?
 
Do a search, search under author- Liquid Blue. He posts " Oil tank filling with gas ". Might help you.
 
Fuel pump? Check to see if you have fuel in the vacuum line on either of the fuel pump's. If I remember wright the RX's had vacuum operated fuel pump's?
 
got it fixed i ran some transmission fluid threw it and re cleaned the carbs cleaned out the vac lines and that
fixed it. thanks for the help

I just had a similar thing with my 03. Long story short it was stuck needles. I have had this sled since new and never had this happen before even when I forgot to put red Stabil in the tank over summer. This winter I had the carbs apart because I took off the K&N's I had on it and did the airbox mod. I changed the pilots and cleaned and reassembled the carbs. Sled started and ran fine. When I stored it this year I placed red Stabil in the tank and ran sled to get some in the float bowls. About a month ago I decided to move the sled but it wouldn't run on all 4 cylinders. Pulled plugs and found one wet. A brand new plug didn't help. Opened airbox and found raw fuel. Started and watched and one carb had fuel shooting up past the needle and air bleeds and would have filled the airbox if I wouldn't have stopped it. Disassembled carb and found the bowl full of black crap that looked like mold. Needle was seized open. I removed the other bowls and found that the black stuff was there too. I think the cause is the new fuel formulations. I found out there is a new green Stabil for ethanol containing fuels. I put this in the tank but also drained the float bowls. I think I will be putting some of this in the tank after each ride this winter. I think we'll be hearing a lot more about this in the fall when its time to wake up the sleds.
 
I have always started my sleds once a month during the off season in addition to adding Stable at the end of the season. I have never had dirty carb problems or starting issues when I do this. My 01 Indy 500 runs beautifully and flawlessly and the carbs are spotless and have never been cleaned. My Vector runs as smooth as silk and the carbs are spotless also. Starts up right away everytime. I have been doing this for years back to my 1937 LaSalle and my 1929 Essex Super Six back in the late 1970's and never had carb issues. Putting your sled away for 9 months and then trying to start it up again and again has got to be tough on the starter, battery and the electrical system as well as the pistons and cylinders.
