Sounds like coils. Frosty had the same issue with his 03 last year. I would replace all 4. Never know when the other will start doing the same.

Those coils are not cheep my dealer said 80.00 x 4 320.00 ouch. I hope mine last!
First off I would try to clean all of the coils with an electric aresol contact cleaner then use dielectric grease and install them and see what you got. Make sure to mark the one arcing so you know which one it is after you clean them all. Good chance that will do it for you if not then buy one or all four.

I believe Frostbite was able to get his 03's replaced under warenty. I don't know if all the dealers would do this but it is a shot.

True, I was able to convince Yamaha to replace them under warranty but, it was a struggle. My dealer tried first and were told no, so I called Yamaha customer service in California and they eventually said they would pay for the parts if I would pay for the labor. DONE!
