Has anyone come up with a good solution to the oil consumption problem? I'm still using about 1/2 to 3/4 Quart every 50 mile ride. When I pull the air box off ther's oil in it, usually a couple of tablespoons or so. I am running a 90 jet in the oil supply to the turbo and I'm running Mobil 1 oil. Any ideas would be appreciated.

No ideas? This used to be a good site to find answeres and opinions. I just pulled the airbox off and it looks like the oil is coming from the little crankcase vent filter. WTF?

Looks like the diagram you show would cause oil starvation to the turbo.

mine came with the jet already installed in the oil line so I dont know what size it is .

I am not having any problem with my cpr front mount using oil it did smoke befor I put the 110 pilot jet in the oil line, but there was no noticeable oil usage.

Looks like oil all around my crank case breather, too much crank case pressure. Maybe I need to get some ring free from yamaha. I was ingesting a lot of oil last year before I put the jet in line to reduce oil pressure, maybe all that oil clogged my rings up.

My 03 never needs oil between changes and has over 5000 miles. I would start with big time ring cleaner (I would use a bunch of it) if that doesn't work then it might be time for a set of low compression pistons ;)!

I DONT THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR ENGINE, IT IS DUE TO THE OIL SYSTEM FOR THE TURBO, I BELIEVE IT IS DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE OIL RETURN LINE, IT NEEDS TO BE LARGER 3\8" ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE ELECTRIC PUMP, I HAVE HEARD OF PEOPLE FABRICATING A 3\8" RETURN LINE AND RUNNING IT UNDER THE TUNNEL AND THEN DRILL A HOLE IN THE BULKHEAD WHERE THE EXHAUST COMES THROUGH AND IT IS A STRAIGHT SHOT TO THE PUMP, I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY DONE THIS YET BUT MINE USED TO BE THE SAME AS YOURS, UNTIL I PUT A NEW TURBO ON NOW IT DONT USE NEAR AS MUCH.

Thanks guys. This has been a problem since day 1. I have replaced the turbo unit 3 times. Now I have a 90 jet inline on the oil supply. That helped a lot, but still using 1/2 quart every 60 miles. Oh, I even replaced the return line which is bigger than the supply line.

Mine doesn't have the inline jet, 1800mi last season with several 200mi days and no oil consumption all season.

There seems to not be any middle ground, either you use a bunch of oil or none.

Oil used is Amsoil 0-30, with K&N or NAPA filters

Mine does not appear to have an inline jet. The small rubber hose that connects the turbo oil feed lines at the fuel tank has been clamped partily closed in the middle of the hose.

I guess your next step is to do a leak down test on each cylinder, with that much oil around the breather vent,it sounds like blow-by and a leak down test will eliminate or confirm this.

That clamp in the middle of the hose is to hold the jet in place .

Here is my senario. Bought Benders show display turbo rx-1 last year and picked it up at the novi show. Had the original rear oil system and I put on about 200 awsome miles. Then I went to the front mount oiler and.....well lets just say I am on my 3rd or 4th turbo (I cant keep track) and I have only 600 miles total on a $13,000 sled. Not happy. Burned a quart every 40 miles. Thought I would beat this problem and went back to the trunk mount oiler. Took the bearings out of a brand new turbo in 8 miles. Finished out the end of last year racing on the ice with the rear mount and the sled ran like Shehight. Oil still filling the cooler. Talked to bender at the show this year and he is just sent another turbo out. I am going to try to put it back in the front with the 90 main jet and see what happens. Was told 10% of people have this problem. Yet I personally know 4 people that have the system and (well 3 now, one got so pissed he sold it and bought an F-7) all of us have the oil burning problem. Thank god I have an arsenal of cats to ride in the mean time, but this sucks. Just burned down my f-8 and now it is time to give the RX-1 another try while I wait for the cylinder to come back. Tell me about this ring clean stuff please and why this "oily rings" can cause problems?? Please someone give me a solution to this, I love the power, but come on. I was getting beat by everything on the ice, because it would not come out of the hole with all the oil in it.
Please help. I see CPR is having some issues with it this year, but sounds like his solution works.

OK, I went riding last weekend and I can still smell oil burning in the turbo every time I slow down or stop. I am really getting tired of fighting this problem. It looks to me like this turbo is designed to sit in place where the oil inlet is on top and the drain on bottom. It won't drain out the way it sits because there is a lip in the cavity holdin the oil in when it's in this postion. Anyone have any input?

DOCDIGGLER, the excess oil dumping into the intake and airbox is being sucked into the engine and it will eventually clog up the rings and cause excessive blow by, therefore pressurizing your crank case and puking even more oil out the crank case breather and all over your engine compartment.
I am using some Yamaha Ring Free to try and clean it out, but it's hard to do when you're still dumping oil into the air plenum. Several people have told me Sea Foam works as good and cost a lot less.
