I'm just wondering what are the major differences between the different year rx1's?
I've been reading that the 03's are crap (read after I bought one!!!
). I know that the rear suspension is the major difference. But, why would the 05's be so be so much faster than an 03? And is that true? Aren't they all using the same engine??

It is NOT faster. 03's are fine, just a little unrefined in the front suspension.

05's appear faster because they transfer weight and hook up so much better with the Mono Shock rear skid.

03s had the 1inch track..Didnt handle or ride very well out of the box..
04s had better seat and longer links and larger swaybar and strait rate springs..1.25 ripsaw track.
05s seat is better than 03 and 04 seat.. new mono shock rear suspension..
ENGINE IS ALL THE SAME..on all years.

set it up
I ended up putting the 13mm sway bar with long links on my 03, added some traction (RipSaw track) and a little more tranfer with the control rod bottom shim and some gap on top... absolutley loved the sled once it was dialed. The mono shock (and new seat) improve small bump compliance quite a bit but theres nothing wrong with a well set-up 03.
Yamaha had to rush to get the 03 to market and missed on the calibration, 04 they got it sorted out (and a bit lighter) 05 they nailed the rear suspension, my guess is 06 will see the Vector style front suspension and a taller seat and bars with more refinements in the monoshock (like grease zerks!) lol

05 is 30 pounds lighter than 04
This translates into being quicker (all other things remaining constant) but not faster.

They have a different part number. Nobody has actually taken a look and made the comparison. Could be anything - stronger springiness, different alloy, whatever.
Like 'Mighty' said, the 05 feels faster because it hooks up a lot better. Also 30 lbs lighter. My dealer said something about a improvement to the rings on the 05, but the rest of the motor is the same. I never did ask him more about the rings. I just wanted to get my new sled home...

I have no qualms with my sled. I would like a couple of things like a different track or the 136 but all in all can you really say that the 03 was a turd? You can't because here we are guy's into our 3rd year of 4 Stroke #*$&@ kicking and no one else has still figured it out. It is called progression and that's the name of the game. So the next sled we all go out and buy will not be as tweaked or different as the following year. Again that's why we're all here. You guy's rock
Thanks for just being out there to make me feel even more proud of my 03!!!

03 was a lot tippier in the corners than the 04, The tippieness xcaused me to wreck an 03, so i bought an 04 still a little tippy but the sled is awesome. The 1.25 track really adds a kick...

The sway bar & links won't get rid of all the tippyness, but the Simmons Ski's sure do.
