Almost RX-1,
I don't think it was your sliders that were burning that time.
Remember when we stopped at the restaurant and we were looking at vent behind the seat? That is where the smell was coming from at that point, and it was not the same smell as sliders melting.
I know the smell of melting sliders quite well now !

Flipper,
I agree it wasn't the typical smell of sliders melting, it was definitely the smell of plastic actually burning.
I inspected the seat, the muffler heat shield, underneat, etc very carefully (spent a long time going over every inch). There is nothing I could find that showed any signs of burning/melting at all. Even the bottom of the seat, where it was closest to the muffler and pipe area didn't show any signs of any heating, nor did the exterior surface smell at all. Only when I compressed the seat did the burnt plastic smell exit through the openings to the foam on the bottom.
I wonder if it's possible that some of the slide material was thrown up and stuck to the muffler (I didn't check the bottom of it too carefully) and was actually burning there?
I'll have another look at the bottom tonight.
I guess another remote possibility is something like a plastic bag got thrown up there somewhere.

Yes of course. But don't worry about stress on the track because they go where the window would normally be cut out any way.race24x said:But you have to drill more holes in your track right???
We had a simular odor problem. It was especially bad with six or seven RX1's following each other. We traced it down to the new wider slide material. The slides are wearing normal except for the outer edges 1/16 inch. These edges are rolling up slightly and are what is rubbing against the track especially over the closed windows thus the smell.
Solution is either live with it, replace the slides with last years slides which I have done, use a grinder to remove the rolled up edges or add the clips as Mighty suggests.
The first thing we tried was grinding the edges and it worked.
