does anyone know where i can get a skid plate protector for my 2005 rx-1? Or dont i have to worry about my bulkhead with the factory skid plate? i thought i saw a forum on here the other day saying that a new skid plate is a MUST. thanks
I think both Shadetree and Dennis Kirk have them. Shade tree's list is unavailable on the internet now.
It depends on how and where you ride. I have one on my 05 but the mounts keep pulling out. The only thing it protects is the inspection plate under the oil pan. You have to remove it every time you change oil.

I put one on mine, figured it was cheap rock damage insurance.
It is a YAMAHA part that covers the front bulkhead and the underside of the engine.
Mine has never came loose, but does have to be removed to change the oil.
It was a royal pain to drill the mounting holes under the engine, but is solid when done!
Was about $65 from Honda East of Toledo.
They did great getting it to me, along with my mountain skis!

Thanks guys. I checked with Dennis Kirk ,couldnt find one for my rx-1 there. I'l check shadetree next. I would like the protection. as for oil changes , im going to put AMSOIL in it this year , so i plan on changing oil every other year. Shouldn't be too bad. Where do you get a lightweight battery and a seat with the storage? As far as the skid plate, there is a forum on here where they say it is a must! Cheap insurance. thanks again guys.

- 2007 Attak - LOVE my sled!!!
I did the lw battery mod as listed in the tech section here, however, the battery it shows does NOT start the sled when below zero!
(Believe me, your buddies will NOT like you having to jump start your sled... it sucked...)
Per Kachess use the YTZ10-s Battery from the R1 street bike.
It is an AGM battery with SERIOUS reserve power! It DOES start the sled down to -20 for sure! (Was that cold last week!)
Got mine off ebay for about $50, here is a link for it. (It was over $150 locally)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-CB ... enameZWDVW
Mounted mine down as low as possible against the very bottom of the bulkhead. Worked great!
You will have to slightly enlarge one of the front holes under the storage box to get it in. (Wasn't much)
Strapped down with 2 small bungies, with dense foam under the battery.
I use mobile1 0-40W in mine, with NAPA gold filter.
There is a BIG difference in oil filters and oil.
Amzoil & Mobile1 tend to be the best oils.
I would still change the oil once a year at the end of the season so the acids don't eat into the engine over the summer.
Hope this helps!![Div20 ;)! ;)!](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/div20.gif)

I agree... I run Amzoil but I always dump the oil in the spring.
