I'm seriously thinking about buying an 05 RX-1. Currently I'm riding an 03 REV 600X, I like it but I don't love it.
Some concerns I have with the RX-1 is:
1. weight - what is the true wet weight?
2. bump handling - I ride on Tug Hill in New York, on weekends you will experiance monster moguls, can this machine handle this and what abuse should I expect to my body?
3. break in period - what is the true mileage, I heard a 1,000 miles, is this true?
If you have any other info please let me know.
Thanks

Nobody knows how it will handle the big bumps because we haven't ridden the production sleds yet. If you believe supertraxx they say it will be the best riding sled ever :?
It will be heavier than your REV but you will only notice that if you try and lift it :ORC
As far as breakin is concerned, don't be. It's a rocket from the get go and will only get better

Mighty Warrior,
Your not kidding, Supertrax loves the new rx-1 and not to forget the vector. For a traditional sled they say it's the best riding sled.

What is it about the REV that has you looking elsewhere? Any problems or issues with the sled?

BBM, I've put 6,000 miles on my '03 RX-1. A lot of that was Tug Hill and I was no worse for wear. I can't wait to take my '05 RX-1ER up there and totally leave my buddy with his XC700 way behind. Viperman will probably still be on my butt though

Not to get off the subject but I notice you guy ride the Tug Hill area alot and I am looking at putting together a trip to there in Feb, we are coming from Chicago, is it worth the ride. We would be coming out on a Sat and staying till Wed so we can ride some during the week. We are going to stay at the edge hotel, good/bad. And about the sled, I picked up my 05 Rx1 ER this past weekend and it is sweet. All I can tell ya BBM is that the quality of this machine is far better that what you have been riding. This is my 1st Yamaha I ever owned but so far so good. The rear suspension is pretty trick and the dial adjustment on the tunnel works! Just jumping up and down on the sled standing still you can notice the difference in the settings. I can't wait to get it on the trail. But unfortionately that will have to wait long than I hope due to tearing my ACL in my knee over the weekend.

Turbo50Mike,
I had a couple of little problems, one being the rings the other was when she was new she caught on fire, bad carb gasket leaking. I'm also not impressed with the motor, it's a 600. I guess the best thing about this sled is the riding position, it's very comfortable. Mostly I guess I like a change every now and then, the RX-1 seems like the next best thing.
I've stopped at my local dealer and I have to say these things are put together awsome. I do believe Yamaha is on the right track with these four stroke motors, just look at their dirt bikes.
Bossman,
The hill is a great place to ride. Your doing the right thing by going on Saturday and leaving mid week.
On Saturday the trails will be bumpy, Saturday night they groom, Sunday - friday the trails are great, they do groom a few times during the week also. Buy yourself a map when you get their. You should be able to average 200 miles per day. The trails can take you to Lake Ontario to Speculator or Canada (depending on snow conditions) and even to Lake Placid.
The Edge is a nice hotel but sometimes if the conditions are not so good you have to trailer your sleds 15 minutes up the hill to the main trail system. I've seen conditions where there was 6 inches on the bottom of the hill and when I reached the top (10 minutes) there was 2-3 feet.
When the season starts you can go on www.timberview.com they have grooming reports.

Bossman, if you can rearrange your schedule, I put together a TY trip at the end of Feb, but the guys usually like to go Wed-Sat. Let me know. We would love to meet you and show you around. Vast amounts of areas to ride in and around Tug Hill. We have the best trial guide in the business. He knows where all of the great riding and eating places are, Dana.
Sorry for chiming in, but thought I'd add some perspective. I hooked up with some guys from Chicago, who drove something like 16 hours to ride with us at Tug Hill a few seasons back. I'm from Connecticut, and it's about 4 hours drive for me. Definitely not a fun place on Saturday, by far the most concentration of snowmobiles I've ever seen, which is good and bad. It's snowmobile country and they almost always have snow, but the traffic and conditions can be horrendous at times. I was on a ZR at the time, can't imagine I'd want to wrestle my new RX through some of that stuff. For that kind of driving distance, I'd head to the UP or Ontario. JMHO....

Come to ONTARIO only 13 hours from your house to Muskoka at the most. Better trails and far fewer rider plus a lot cheaper. I am from Chicago, DePaul area.

I had an 03 RX1 and traded for a 04 REV600SDI. Ran the doo last year and traded back to a 05 RX1. I was never fully comfortable with the doo handling but the ride was great as far as by back was concerned. My complaint on the 03 RX1 was ride quality. I am betting this has been fixed for 05.
I too had quality & reliability problems with my REV.
Lastly, The RX1 4 stroke engine is to die for. I really missed it!!!!

I say monday nite to friday and get the hell OUT!!!! Better yet, when you get off the thurway just travel ten minutes north, then stop, unload and ride. Beautifull ridin and you won't be able to see it all, just to much FUN!! Don't bother with the hill.Only during the week. BTW: Just add some risers to your new 05. then you can sit or stand, your choice, unlike the rev where there is no choice but to stand. HONK

RX1MAN, the first ride is at the end of January. I am hoping to put another one together at the end of February. I want to see you guys more than once this year. I was thinking of riding around Mapledale. When are you thinking of putting a ride together down at your place. Maybe the end of February will work. Let me know, Dana.

Dana, the end of Feb. would probably be too late around me unless we have a really good winter. I was thinking middle of Jan. or second week in Feb. Hope to have details worked out and post soon.
