I am considering pulling the carbs on the 05 rx1 I just purchased to clean them..I have done the carbs on my Venture and wifes 600 polaris but have never touched a 4 stroke ..is there anything to consider before I start into this?I do have a local performance shop I can take it to but really like to learn all I can on my own in case I have issues out riding.I do know the carbs have to be synched but if I dont change anything on the rack I could be ok?
It has a low end bog..and wants to miss a bit at higher rpm the guy I bought it from did not treat the gas when he parked it last year and used just regular gas..
opinions?

Look in the technical section of the Home page under Engine section They have some articals to read .

I would change the philip screws to allan head when you do it.

Regular fuel required only.

Your low end bog and backfiring is because the carbs need a good cleaning. I also recommend changing the Phillips to allen screws. If you need to do exhaust donuts go with copper. You can get both your donuts and allen screws for carbs from Sledtoyz.

If you can find non-ethanol at least. Octane doesn't make a difference, ethanol can though.

Premium is a waste of money as the sled is designed to run on 87 regular. It won't hurt the motor but it burns slower so you do not get the full benifit of the increased octane and could loose a few hp. E10 is fine but for storage non ethonal is best. Premium is usually non ethanol. Up here anyway.

Set the pilot screws on the bottom of the carbs to 2 turns out from lightly seated.
A carb sync would be a good thing after the carbs are back in the sled.

If you remove the tops of the carbs there are little O rings on each carb.. DONT forget to put these back in!

I second that comment.. I built my own set of gauges and synced my carbs for the first time since Ive owned it (about 4 years) last winter, and it made a massive difference in throttle response. Call me crazy if u wish, but I noticed a noticeable power difference through the entire band. I'm going to do an annual carb clean as we get closer to the season, and then throw the gauges back on to see if they are off again, but I highly recommend!! The adjustments are extremely sensitive, so I would think after a winter of riding, just the vibrations could easily throw the sync off a bit each season, let alone a removal and/or cleaning
