I'm on the hunt for another sled for next year. Currently, I have 2 '05 RS Ventures, an '04 RX1, and an '01 VMax delux. The plan is to sell the VMax & replace it with another 4 stroke. I LOVE the Ventures, but the track howl is a big-time minus. The RX1 has no track howl, but the exhaust is louder at low speeds. I love the RX1's power, but in reality, the 3 cyl is no slouch either.

I'd get a Vector in a heartbeat if there was no track howl, but from what I read here, it seems that such is not the case.

Such major life decisions, what should a person do? Input is appreciated.

Id go with the Vector. Ive never ridden a sled that didnt have track howl to a certain degree and the Genesis 120 is such a sweet engine, especially for trail riding.

I personally like the vector over the rx1's. I changed my track yes the rip saw does howl on the vector. With a little tuning you will leave a rx1 in the dust.

I dunno about that. On the lake the added flow of 4 cylinders and 5 valves per cylinder gives the RX a definete advantage.
On the trails, Id say Vector all the way though. ;)!

octane.My vector will beat Some rx1's,f7's rev 800's,fusion 900's and zr 800's.

Ask pimpedrsrage and big-d they seen me raciing these sleds this past weekend in fact pipmed was the starter guy for half of the races..We where running anwhere from 1000ft to sometimes 1/4 mile.

clutching and gearing.Lot's of clutch tuning.I was running different plugs but fouled them a couple weeks ago so I got stock one's in.Everyone under setimetes the 120 hp vector's but they have lot's of potential.I also have a 136x1.25" six pitch track with no studs. The only other thing is I put energy release in my chain case.

Nice. Clutching can really change the way a sled performs. I know it really changed my '01 600 XC.
Ive got an EPI yellow primary spring with 10-62 weights and it pulls hard off the line. I lost a little top-end with the 10-62 weights (I used to have 10-60s) but now the engagement doesnt snap in as hard and it pulls harder off the line. Granted, its not Vector or RX-1, but it pulls pretty hard for a little 600 2-stroke.

I put a hartman extension 136" kit on mine with a camoplast 1 1/4 six pitch track fully clipped and no more howl. You can put any track on other than a stock rip saw track and the howl will go away.
