I have an 05 Vector RS that has deafening track howl. I was searching around to see if anything new has been found or if all the newer models still have it. Mine is so bad that it only got 100 miles on it in the last 2 seasons. I have put on bigger wheels, added wheels, tried a 1" track, played with the limiter strap and springs, tried every kind of slider material I could find. The only thing that makes the sled rideable is wearing ear plugs but they are a real pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to use it this year.
Thanx in advance

Sorry wrong forum. I restarted in RS General Talk. :o|

What track are you running now? I had it BAD with the ripsaw, seriously it was deafening. New predator track and it was gone. The supposed root cause of the howl is the ribs in the older rip saws that sound like rumble strips when the idlers roll over them.

We have a 05 vector in the stable all stock and wow that thing is quiet and that has the new ripsaw on it that it came with.

The vector section was packed with threads on this but I never saw a solution that was different then anything you have tried all ready!

Did you ever have the jackshaft update?

I tried a Kimpex 1" non rip saw fully clipped style. Still have it. It was no better. Mine seems like most of the noise is coming from the angle that the track clips hit the sliders. ??? I also added those flat backers that go in the track where there are no clips. That seemed to help a little.
What jackshaft update ? What was replaced ?

Yes it was replaced because there was a batch that was defective and would snap in two! I dont know if they had any impact on noise though. You can have your dealer run the VIN to find out if the sled has it or not.

na.... the jackshaft update was one to replace a wrong bering journal that could eventually end up to a snap. I had it and sure, did not do any to the dozer.

Wheels hitting the track's ribs are the trigger and get better or worst as a combination of different things... temp, hyfax wear, trail surface, track tension.

I do however suspect that the 2 inners on the middle shock's shaft are for a big play. Will be removing these for a short ride one day..... just to confirm/shut a theory.

My 05 Rage howled a bit with the stock ripsaw... that track ended up on the old 2000 Polaris XC back up and it's quiet as can be on there.
