05 Vector worn clutch parts.......heads-up!

I noticed this weekend my Motor was only giving up 8100 r's at WOT. I know this is an 84-8500 motor. Was thinking the clutch was fubar, and with close to 7k on it, me thinks a new clutch is in the works.

Suggestions?

My 96 V-Max 600 wore groves in the weights just the same. Must be that darn two stroke/two cylinder harmonics. I wish the R and D guys would wake up. These things should last forever without any attention. The warranty should go on forever and the dealer should have all the parts I need and should also sell them at cost. Get the point?

hondo - those are the nasties looking weights I have ever seen. How many miles did you have on them before they started to look like that? How did your weight bushings look when you pulled the weights off?

Our old Exciter 440's back in the 80's used to wear out weights in a hurry and they would get grooves in them similar to what you posted, but those old Yammi YEX clutches (or whatever they used to call them) were junk anyways. I always attributed weight wear to either sloppy weight bushings or worn out roller bushings. But maybe it is indeed a function of the harmonics of the 3 cylinder engine. I wonder if the weight design is part of the problem too. The stock weights seem to have a pretty heavy tip.

If they've never been gone through, your primary and secondary need a good looking at and likely some new parts. Mine was over-revving to 9200.

The weights were new this year at the beginning of my record run. I put 6,700 miles on them in 29 days.

I like to slow cruise around 6,000 and fast cruise around 7,000 rpms.

These two rpms ranges have less vibration in the bars, however the two rpm ranges seem to "hammer" the clutch weights pretty good.

"Harmonics" ;)!

I switched my stock pins and weights over to polaris weights and have not had a problem with almost 4000 miles on them.

Care to share the specs on the Polaris parts?

The pin weight kit is from Goodwin performance...the springs and helixes are also on this page.

http://www.goodwinperformance.com/yamahaclutches.asp

My current weights in my primary are S53R at 53 grams using a 52-36 helix and different primary and secondary springs....

You can find the weights under the polaris clutch parts..

I looked at Goodwin's site and found this b4 I went the dealer route. When Yami didn't cover 1 cent of my issue, and I decided to do a complete rebuild, I completely forgot about the Goodwin option, and the Goodwin kit includes a new Helix, which I didn't change. (can't tell for sure but the Goodwin kit looks like it includes roller)

Would have saved $$ by giong with the Goodwin kit and sled probably would have ran better too!

Thanks for the info!
