05 warrior hyfax wear. new guy needs your info again

Just checked hyfax before trip to dealer for 500 mile check and oil change. Wow! gone down to wear line from in front of front idler to in front of inside rear idlers. not 300 miles on sled and most of it in good snow conditions. With track suspended, seems like lots of pressure on front idler while middle and back no pressure at all. What's the deal? Anyone seen this before? What's the long term solution? Track tension was tight when delivered but seems normal now. Since I'm taking the sled in first thing tommorrow in advance of 10 day canadian trip any one with info please try to reply tonight . thanks, studdog
 
The hyfax on my 2003 RX-1 wore done to about an 1/8th inch in about 200 miles and did not wear after that. I changed them at 6000+ miles.

My 2005 RX-1 did the same and I have 2308 miles on them now and I expect to get at least 2000 miles more.

Funny thing is people have complained about the wear up front. I show allmost NO wear up front. All my wear is below were my butt sets on the slide.

I carry my track loose, thats about 1" space between track and rail.

I think that if you get wear up front, then the track is too tight. Just my operating opinion with 36 years of snowmobiling. ;)!
 
I can't help but wonder if Yamaha got a bad batch of hyfax this year. I got about 5500 miles out of my original ones, and I had to change a set in 500 miles this year. Don't remember this many problems in years past.
 
I got great mileage out of the original hyfax on all of my past 3 Yamaha sleds, over 3500 miles on each pair on each sled. Everytime I changed them "just to be on the safe side", I got lousy mileage. I had just put a new pair on my RX-1 and was riding in perfect conditions, groomed trail with a thick packed base with 8-10" of powder. I could feel the hyfax heating up, felt like I was dragging something. Same thing happened on my SRX and Vmax-4 several years ago. Everytime I replaced the hyfax, they would wear quickly to within 1/16" of the wear limit line and stay there. I got tired of this game so I installed a kit that I got from Pioneer which moves the small bogie wheels down by 3 mm, pushing the track 3 mm away from the hyfax. I did the same thing on my 2000 SRX. I worked perfect. No measureable wear on the hyfax of both sleds after 1200 miles. You can accomplish teh same thing by installing larger dia. wheels. the stock Yammie wheels are 5 1/8" dia., you could install 5 1/4" dia. aftermarket wheels. Whatever you do DO NOT buy the urethane wheels from Maxximum performance. They will not last more than 1 ride before the bearing fail, pure junk. I know, I bought a set and they failed!
 
I have 2 - 05 Warriors. Ate up about 3/4 of the first set of slides in 150 miles. Riding on ice trails with no snow. Front part was worse than center to back. I put new ones on (SMA-8CW92-70-HP) both sleds. These are suppose to be the better slides. Did another 200 plus miles on snow and ice and they show no wear at all. I did pull up the straps 1/2" and 3/4" on both sleds, set full rate adjuster to hard and the Rear suspension spring preload adjustment to 3. I think the slides are better because last week I did a lot of lake riding and still no sign of wear. Did a few GPS runs. Speedo hit 122 and GPS 108. Only have 380 miles on the sled. Waiting for the snow!!!
Make sure the track is adjusted at the right tension.
Only other problem I had was overheat. I checked the antifreeze on both sleds and it was 100%. Removed a few pints and cut it to 60/40 and now no problems even riding when it was 45 degrees outside. Great sleds and a blast to ride.

1800 miles on my 05 and they still look damn good I do run my track pretty loose. Read a post a while back that said to heat them up with a heat gun to the point where they start to shine supposed to make them last longer. Another thing i've seen done is to drill a bunch of small holes along the whole length of the slide on the bottom lets snow pack into the holes providing lubrication when in those extended stretches of hard pack or ice. ;)!

3000 miles on my -04 Warrior hyfaxes and still a bit from the low-mark. I've recently mounted the SLP-bolts to get the sled to move easier and prevent the hyfax heatup. It works!!!
 
I have an idea that I want to experiment: bring the snow flap closer to the track and the ground. This way, the snow (even in marginal condition)would bounce back on the track and cool the slides. This idea came to me when I had to be two on my Rx-1 for 10 miles. At destination, I noticed that there was much more snow in the skid that usual. And I remember that on my Polaris with M-10, the flap was tall and closer to the track.

My warrior eats the hyfax too. low snow/icey conditions really hurt it. The only solution I've come up with is pulling up the limiter straps. The track needs to be fairly tight to keep it from ratcheting in powder. I"ll make it 1 season on a set.
 
Nordik - Pulling the flap in on a Vector did not help. Still eats slides in 300 miles. The snow dust never seems to get into the suspension. Then you also back over the flap. It would probably help for over heating .
 
Mine wore down to the line in about 600 miles. The wear was at the bend. Granted the first weekend trip I took I put on 500 miles and due to rain earlier in the week all the lakes had ZERO snow cover. You could smell them melting. I did get a set of oversized front wheels from SLP and pulled the limiter strap up about 1/4" to 3/8". I'll see how they hold up this weekend.
