When I purchased my 04 Warrior a few months ago the previous owner just had it serviced and installed new slides.
Now 2000kms later they have worn down to nothing at the bend in the rail in front of the idler wheels.
So I replaced them and reinstalled the skid and adjusted the track exactly the way it came apart, and whoa!, is there ever a lot of drag, the track doesn't coast at all, I let go of the throttle while on the stand and the track stops dead.
So now I have a few questions and need advice.
Is there an upgrade or next size up front idler wheels (2 or 4?) that you would recommend and is this a good idea?, if so from which sled might I find the proper used part?
How else can I reduce the drag?, would the fourth rear idler benefit me at all?, or the marginal snow wheel kit?
What is the proper way to set the baseline sag on the suspension?, I am a BRP guy so the norm for the old CK3 chassis was when the front of the track touched the ground you would have one inch clearance at the rear of the track, but the new REV-XP chassis they recommend the track is flat and even when set down.
Right now with the Warrior im gonna say when the front touches the floor I have about 3" clearance at the rear. It seems really tight up at the front

Sounds like the track is too tight. If you positioned the track adjustment at the same point with the worn out slides, it doesn't take into account the new thicker slides. So the track adjustment has to be loosened from what it was previously. Not really understanding your clearances. But, it sounds like a tight track....

Sorry Phaze, the clearances aren't referring to track tensions, I was tired from a midnight shift when I posted, lol.
The track was last set with new slides 2000 kms ago so I thought it should be close if I reinstall a new set. But it still seemed to tight, I can back the tension off 3-4 turns and it still has a lot of drag up front, but the tracks not tight.
The clearance i'm referring to is the distance between the lug and the ground while setting the machine back down on the ground, if the front of the suspension touches first, then how much clearance is left between the lug and the ground at the back. This is for when you begin to set the suspension sag.
2000 kms is only 4-5 weekends with the weather we had this year.
here the link to the track that is on it https://www.denniskirk.com/lug-rip-saw- ... p01341.prd

try tightening the front limiters 1/2" and loosen off the front shock spring as much as you can. another trick is to use older yamaha plastic from a pogo venture tf (longtrack one). it does fit and allows more snow onto the sliders through the windows.
if you want to run oversize wheels, i reccomend 4 of royaldistributing part # 04-4135-20. it is a kimpex wheel that looks like the oe apex wheels and takes the stock bearing. i also reccomend you install 4 of the billet wheel bushings as they eliminate the need for the plastic bearing shims they had in there stock. never had a set of those pastic ones last.
marginal snow wheel kit would not hurt either but the adjustments did more for me than the kit did on my 05.

oh and the kimpex wheels are the ones is used on my brothers 2013 venture when i replaced the slider plastic and they have helped greatly with slider wear on his sled.

Sliders
I bought a 05 warrior 3 years ago with 13000km on I think slider where almost new ,in no time they will wear bad at the bend I thought there were gone so I just drove it , we'll 20.000 km now and still the same so don't change them to fast lol

Lol, theewarrior, these where clearly worn through.
Has anyone used the yamaha marginal snow idlers along with the larger 4 idlers?, or is it not necessary ?. Man I hate to drop $120 plus tax for new wheels just now .
Also , where might I find these aluminum bushings and a part #, I already need to place an order with yamaha for the plastic bushing at the top of front crossmember

I will try and go into the trailer tomorrow and get the part number off of the set I have for my other brothers war (sapling killer) for the aluminium spacers.
The kimpex wheels look good and are decently priced. I have spent more on aftermarket high end ones like the real cools. They do work though.

If your wheels are in good shape you can buy a lowering kit from Pioneer that does the same thing as installing larger wheels, and it provides a little more support as some of them have two mounting screws instead of one.

Been through the exact same thing with my 03 before I installed the ZX2. For starters, I agree with theewarrior, Don't change them too fast. Mine would wear in the same spot in the first couple hundered miles, almost right through, and then stop. I put on 2000 miles like that before I installed the ZX2. Having said that, it also sounds like your track is way too tight and that will also increase the rate at which your sliders will wear, especialy at the bend in the front. I have read countless threads on here on slider wear and track tension. The concensus seemed to be that some the yamaha sleds are notorious for wearing out sliders but with a few adjustments it can be resolved. All of the above suggestions will help but you will have to loosen your track.
To set the track tension lift the rear of the sled off the ground and loosen the track so that it sags about 1" to 1.5" without any weight on it. Take it out for a rip and hammer on the throttle in different situations. If the drivers ratchets on the track, tighten it up a bit. Keep repeating this process until the it doesn't ratchet and your track tention is set. This should help with slider wear. I have used this on my rx1 and attack and haven't had any issues what so ever. You may even pick up some more speed with a looser track
Good luck and keep us posted
