So I have recently moved, my sled was a flatland drag sled. Now I have access to 4000-6000' mountains and am really loving the powder. However when my local shop set my sled up for me they didnt give me my old parts back... They went one tooth bigger on the gear for more top end. I have just bought a stock Helix to replace my 55/43 to 45. Just curious what i should do for springs and weights because of the taller gears? I need to slow this thing down because im really starting to like boondocking, but at wot 190kph track speed is to much. Also my current clutch engagement is 5500rpm. This thing rocks at flat drags, but not so much in the powder.
Any thought to be able to keep the taller gears?
Thanks.
Kyle

The very first thing I would do is go after the gearing. The lack of lower gearing is tough to compensate for, and you are geared up.

Then I would add the Mountain version of springs in both clutches.

Then, I would see where that put me on the RPMs. I would add or decrease weight to bring the RPMs to 10,200 - 10-500.

Then, I would add some powder skis to get the nose up.

Then there is the track. I would get back into a very aggressive track with the tallest lugs that you can get in there.

Sounds like fun!

I have the track, but sounds like it might just be cheaper to add noss... :nos got the stock helix and stock springs on there way. Ill play with the weights a bit i guess. I still do ride around here a bit, its only like 1000'. I will realisticly only get to the mountains like 5 times a year tops! I really dont want to dump a whole bunch of money in this thing. lol
Thanks for the help though!

If you want the engine to last, you will probably want to skip the NOS too. Besides, changing a gear and chain would be a lot cheaper than NOS.

Good luck. When you get the springs in and the RPM changes, feel free to drop us a line to help figure out how to get the Rs back in "the band."
