Got to ride with a new Sno-pro turbo Arctic Cat yesterday. We put about 60 miles on the lake with many high speed runs and drag racing in between. We also rode about 40 miles on all types of trails that surround the lake. I switched off with with Turbo to ride it and give my unbiased opinion.
First of all it does ride slightly better than mine in the trails and it handles quite a bit better in the curves. The sled is a bigger load than the Apex but they do an even better job hiding the weight. Fit and finish is not on par with the Yamaha. He also had his secondary replaced due to bad bushings but hasn,t had another problem in 1500 miles.
In the engine dept. it is quiet and powerful but he couldn,t get by my Apex once yesterday. Not even on the plowed half mile or so strip at our local lakeside restaurant. He was close alot but couldn,t top end me. Drag
racing we both spun like hell, but I almost always would pull him when we starting hooking up. I raced him for 2 miles on the way home WOT and he was several sleds back. I've probably got him by 3 or 4 mph on the top end.
On our one fillup of the day I got 14.7 mpg and he got 13.6 mpg.
All in all it is a nice sled but not much more advanced than our 3 year old design.
Check out hardcoresledder under the Cat 4stroke section. Mike Knapp seems to say the same things about his new Turbo Cat vs his old Attack.
I hope and pray Yamaha comes out with something good next year!!!!!

There is the only a few good things to say about the Cat. The ride, the handling and its quiet. I got 11.8 MPG with the Cat yesterday. About 1 MPG less than I usually would get with my Attak running 10% ethanol around home. The Cat will need some serious work to show its 183 HP thats for sure. I don't know where there missing it so bad. I'm sure the new Yamaha will show it's 180 HP MUCH better!!!!!!!!!

Let's hope it's 180hp or close. My dealer said there was a dealer meeting up at a restaurant on our lake on thurs Feb 12. He said all of the new sleds could be ridden by the dealers only. The restaurant will also be open to the public so I will see if I can get a ride thru my dealer . If I can't the sleds will be at his dealership on that Sat the 14th for his Yamaha Fest. I will report as soon as I find out anything. He said with all the huge discounts on all the current models that they must be up to something.

My buddy wouldnt even race me with his new turbo.. he brags all day about how fast it is, and how its the fastest sled on the planet.. but then says he would only race if we started at 50+mph.. because it spins the whole way even with a cobra track and 250+ studs.. The new cats have NO weight transfer and just cant hook up..
To bad it got crashed before we could race..

Mike seems right about alot of the HP going up in smoke on these new Arctic Cats. The DD is more than likely the culprit. Most chaincase Arctic Cats used to fly. Hook them up to a track dyno instead of an engine dyno to see what they are really putting out. Who really cares what the engine is putting out if it can't get it to the ground in an efficient manner.

My buddy's F1000 sled is 190hp. It runs like 150. He has a cobra track, so he gets a good holeshot, but after that it's not that fast. On a roll on @60mph, he runs side by side with a stocker. They don't get the power to the ground.
Mike, on another note, I can't believe you spent money on a Cat. They are the most poorest quality sled ever made. year after year it's the same thing. There motors seemed to be pretty reliable. There hp is there, but it just does not get it to the ground properly. I agree, it's in the DD.

the d and d drive isn,t helping but that is not the main culprit on the turbos. i ride with a buddy that has a sno-pro and it is quiet, handles good and goes through the rough no problem. he is been talking to the dealer and cat is aware of this and working on a solution. there is something wrong with the wastegate on the turbo. also i see there starting to back order clutches if you didn,t get the retainer plate fix. it,s too bad by the time they get it sorted out the season is over.
