I have an 06 attak that I changed the chain case oil on. Reverse has always worked and worked after I changed the oil also. I took the cover off to look things over and all looked good so I put it back together. When I visually look at the linkage when I try and put it in reverse it "seems" like the bottom lever does not want to engage. I tried lightly prying on it with a screwdriver and it doesn't want to go into gear. It makes me wonder if the washer on the small reverse gear might have come off. I can hear no grinding in it at all. I rode 50 miles today and only noticed it when I went to put it in the trailer. I haven't checked all the linkage out but do not think that is the problem since when I try to engage I can feel the pressuse of wanting to go a little more.
I have tried to put it in gear while running thinking just a little gear mismatch but this does not work either....two questions is one. I assume take it apart again and look things over...and two the bigger question do you think it is going to hurt anything to run it this way with all the snow we have I don't want to miss out the next couple of days.
Thanks for reading and any response you might give.

Ya I think I got it all back together good. That is the linkage that is not wanting to engage fully. Since I put it back together I have put it in reverse 10 to 20 times with no problems though. Reason I am thinking it might be that washer on the small reverse gear is I saw a video on you tube (in french which I cant understand) it showed the washer falling in the area that the large reverse gear would go and got me to wondering if it is in there keeping gear from going all the way in.

You probably know how to adjust this reverse. But it has to be done just right. Try adjusting it so it gets more engaging when shifting into reverse. My 07 wouldn't work well using Yami's settings for clearance so I turned the adjuster to engage just a bit more and that has worked fine.

I pulled the cover and the washer that goes over the reverse gear did drop and got chewed up. Is this just a standard washer or is it a spring washer? I am assuming that it got caught up in the shift forks for there appears to be no other damage.

See below... The washer is def made to spec for spacing but it really doesn't look special. Make sure the little spring is seated in the hole between the first gear and the second one for the reverse gears. Number 14 on pic. Number 12 below sounds like the washer that got chewed! Should order one from dealer. Make sure the second washer below second gear is also present. With oil changed and washer pieces removed I would run sled without reverse until you get parts.

There was enough of the washer left that I was able to check it for size. Got lucky and local hardware in town was open and found one within .002 of thickness. Put it all together and works great.. thanks for the help.
