First I would like to thank you for the reports on the 06 sleds, it makes it a lot easier for us guys who wont get the chance to ride one before we dive in!

I had one picked out (Apex Gt) until I went to the U.P this past weekend. To make a long story short I had a 03 rx1 that I rode until I hit a rock and cracked the frame and tore the oil pan off. I then had to rent one for the next couple of days. I rented a ski don’t 500 MXZ with the Rev frame.

I hate to say it but I loved ridding it even though it looks like a grasshopper. I forgot how snappy a two stroke was and it actually did 98 on the lake, which I didn’t think was bad for a 500. It handled great on the trails and you could really pound it in the ditches even though it only had oil shocks.

So my question to you guys is how does the rider forward position on the 06's feel compared to the Rev's? If I like the feel of the Rev will I like the new Yammies? How do the 06's acceleration/snappiness compare to the 2 strokes, or the 03 rx1. I really missed the torque coming out of the corners with my rx1 but I thought the 500 did a pretty good job.

I have been riding Yamahas for 12 years with most of them on a old Phazer 2 that i put 15,000.00 miles on. I had 1,700 miles on my Rx1 before I screwed that up. :( I love the reliability of them and don’t want to switch but after riding that Rev style I would consider buying the Mach Z especially since the gas mileage is close with the SDI. I think I need a :ORC but I would appreciate an honest answer since no matter what I do it will be about 10 grand. Thanks in advance.

O.K., here goes: the Apex is NOT as far forward as the Rev......a major consideration for guys like me who have had 8 knee operations... :o| It is much closer to the Mach Z position which is back and lower from the standard Rev. Basically, if you had a 2 to 3" higher seat on the 03, plus a 4" riser, plus moving forward about 6" on the seat, you'd be there

Much easier to stand than the 03....and suspension is MUCH better ;)!

If that was a 500ss you were riding it actually has a 596 motor so it is basically a 600.

I rode a 500SS... They arnt that snappy... They just have a high clutch engagement speed... I ACTUALLY DONT LIKE THAT... TOO JERKY!!

That is kind of BS that they put it as a 500 and it is actually a 600. That makes sense now.

Thanks for the info, so bascially if i got the Mach Z it would be the same seating position as the Apex, so i might as well get the Apex and stick with reliability and no 2 stroke oil.

Thanks...

I had a 05 mach Z. Don't think for a minute that the mach Z is in any way comparable to an rx 1. It is a front end heavy pig, good for only one thing. Flat out lake racing. It was billed as a trail friendly hot rod. Believe me there is nothing trail friendly about it. I sold mine and bought 05 warrior. Even though heavier the warrior feels lots lighter and other than the speed the warrior is a far better high speed trail cruiser. studdog

I also wouldn't compare gas milage either. I have heard that the 1000 sdi isn't like the smaller ones and does like its fuel to the tune of about 10-12 mpg's :ORC

MY 05 mach z got the same mpg I get with my 05 warrior, about 15 mpg. The mach z engine is scary fast. It will literally run away from any stock RX 1. But overall the RX 1 is a better machine in every way. studdog

Sounds like you had a good one there studdog. I talked to 2 guys at my dealer that weren't happy with the gas milage they got. They also weren't happy with the plug fouling they had which could be part of the reason for their crappy gas milage too.
