Old guy sled repair report

Wildbill I am using the Seafoam in my sled. I only have 120 miles with it so far, so I can't really say wether it works. I run 100 octane Sunoco most of the time and up to 12.5 #'s of boost with the stuff. I added half to the gas and half to the oil. I may change the oil this week and see what happens then. It does make your oil alot darker almost imediately. I hope it works, because i was using a quart abou every 250 miles.

Should I be thinking of another skid? It sounds like more maintenance than it should be. Any thoughts? What else could I or should I look at?

It sounds like the M10's did not fair to well. Is this the case? Was that a fair assessment? This is the first time I have heard of anyone having problems with these suspensions. Is there something I should be aware about? Any help would be much appreciated since I am on the verge of putting my money down.

BUY a polaris EDGE suspension!! I believe it is a better ride anyway!!

Power even yours is very high maintenance for 2300 miles. Ohlins shocks are supposed to be godd for a lot more than 2300 miles for a rebuild.

The miles you guys accumulate each year is IMPRESSIVE!! The relative lack of Yamaha related problems is also impressive! I want to go with you guys next year! Seriously!

You referred to a "maintenance program".....could you be more specific? Thanks!

Dukesters maintenance schedule.

I change the oil and filter at 2000 miles. I will change the oil earlier than that if the nest trip warrants. I never exceed 3000 miles. I use 0-40 Amsoil.

I grease the machine every trip but not to exceed 400 miles. I carry a miniature grease gun to use on bagger trips.

I use Breakfree lube on the clutch every time I grease the sled. I clean the clutch with a spray called Birchwood’s gun scrub about every 1500 miles (it evaporates) and lube it with Breakfree.

I grease the bearing behind the secondary and the drive shaft bearing below the secondary every 1500 miles.

I use Breakfree on steering joints and etc. when I grease the sled.

I grease the ski saddle bushing every 1500 miles.

I use emery paper to cross hatch the faces of the primary when I grease the clutch.

I spray the belt with Birchwood’s gun scrub when I grease the clutch.

I add Seafoam to the gas after every trip so it can condition the fuel while it is not being used. I also add it to the gas about every third tank.

To many of you may think this is extreme but when you take bagger trips that start out at 1000 miles and end up at 2000 miles, just because, you need to be prepared.

Dukester

I applaud your group and bow in respect.

The report is awsome and confirms the reliability of the Yamaha 4 stroke that got me on board last year. Any one who has wrenched on a sled knows in short time just how well built these sleds are. We need to get the word out there to get the resale price up where it belongs.

If you or your group ever come to North Bay please feel free to contact me. Wings will be on me. Will gladdly guide or just ride with your bunch or hard asses.

IS THERE A WEB SITE FOR SEAFOAM!!!!

How much seafoam do you put in the gas tank, and how much do you put in the oil and how often do you put it in. Always looking for any edge i can get.

about the reliability of the rx-1.......i would say i am happy with everything except the non greasable plastic bushings in the front and rear suspension,i saved a lot of money from not using 2 stroke oil but upon close inspection ,every bushing front and rear were worn out some almost metal to metal,7000 miles, take the weight off the front suspension and wiggle the ski around  inner a-arm bushings ok but outer a-arm bushings and spindle bushings shot, pull the skid and look really close at all pivot points,i.e. shock mounting points, fra pivot points, worn out, really hard to tell with skid in sled but when you pull it out and start wiggling things around, you can see the slop in everything, where there is grease fittings, those bushings were ok but everywhere else they were gone, between those and a few bad bearings(all 3 back wheel bearings gone) i spent about 275 bucks on this stuff instead of 2 stroke oil,ive owned ski-doo since 91 and never had anything wear out like that, now i dont think i would go back to a 2 stroke because they wont last like a 4 stroke so dont get the wrong idea, its all new now so im good for next year, then spring break my new 06 ,just my 2 cents
