I pulled old faithful out of the garage a few minutes ago to start for the first time this season and it wont start.
It will turn over but wont start and I'm not getting a "pop" like it wants to. When I turn the key to the first position I hear what I believe is the fuel pump hum for 2-3 seconds then shuts off and for the life of me I cant remember if that is normal or not. I pulled the airbox off to check and be sure I connected everything after changing the oil and all looks good.
Where do I start looking? My rev is simple, pull the plugs and check for gas if so then check for spark, but I have no idea where to begin looking on the Apex.
Thanks!!!

The hum is normal, it's the fuel pump. I'd start with changing the plugs. See if they are wet with fuel. Could try first, Remove the fuel pump relay and crank the engine, this might dry the plugs. The fuel pp relay is the one that clicks above u'r left foot well.

try some new gas and give it a little throttle. this happens to me all the time. I leave it for a month or 2 and it will turn over but nothing, fuel pump cycles and all good still nothing then a little throttle and it starts to pop and finally starts. fine until i leave it for a month.
The fuel pump cycles for about 5 secs.
let us know if it starts

I pulled one of the plugs (second from the left when on the sled) and it looked bone dry so I put it back in turned the motor over a few times and pulled it again and still dry.
Can I disconnect the fuel line running from the top brake side of the fuel tank running to the fuel rail and see if it is pushing fuel out?
I'm wondering if I fried something last winter when I went to start it and after a few seconds remembered it was empty. Either that or maybe a mouse ate something he shouldn't have(I found a decent sized nest in the nose cone when doing my oil change a month ago)

If you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key on that is probably not the problem. Do you have any error codes on the display?

I went and tried checking for spark by keeping the plug out and turning it over. I couldn't see anything so I put the plug back in a tried it again. After a few tries with the gas pressed it did sputter to life and ran for about 15 seconds then died. It did that twice and now it won't start. I'm giving it a few minutes on our battery charger since the battery is dead then I will try again.
I admit I was excited and completely forgot about the warmup and gave it a few hits of gas.
Was a great feeling hearing her purr even if it was shortly lived and now I know it needs a modded airbox. Sounds mean with the airbox removed.

It could still be the old gas working through the system. Charge up the battery and try again. You may want to throw in some Sea Foam or other injector cleaner with your fresh for good measure.

Sounds alot like when my crank position senser (stator) failed. The fuel pump worked but the injectors wouldn't , no spark as well. If this is the problem you should get a engine trouble code of 12. Not a bad repair but pricey.

I've gotten it to start a few times so far, sometimes it will stall a few seconds after it starts and other times it will run for 30 seconds or so then stall. I have to let it sit in between tries or it wont start. The gas has to be wide open for it to start and it takes a few seconds.
I'm hoping it is just clearing itself out.

Would it start at all with the injectors not working?

No. It will not fire if the injectors are not working. I would try new sparkplugs. One or two may be fouled not allowing the motor to fire up properly.
