So I been looking for a project to keep me busy until we get some significant snow. Have been looking for a Phazer to add to the stable but they are pretty scarce in my area. I came across an 06 Nytro with 10k miles on it. Needs some cosmetics which include hood, headlight, windscreen and I am sure some other stuff. I have an idea of what I'd like to pay for it but am interested in what everyone thinks it worth.

10k miles, and needs work.. $1000 to $1500 maybe, and that might be generous. I bought my 06 nytro 2 years ago with 2400 miles for a little over $3000.

1000-1500 is awful low #*$&@ a old 2stroke is worth that. The motor is worth your thinking. If it rides decent and he'll take $1000. I'll take off right now to go get it.
I sold a clean 99 A/C 440 for $1100. with 4800miles.

Big dog, I agree the sled is probably worth more in parts than whole. I am thinking more in line with smokingcrater. Just saw a complete Vector gt with 14k go for $2500. I am figuring about $500-700 in parts so to make sense I am looking at the $1000-1500 range

A running sled tends to bottom out in depreciation around $1000 to $1500, which is why an old 2 stroke would be worth the same. To be honest, if my budget was $1000 to $1500, the last thing I'd be buying was a 4 stroke with 10k miles on it. Yes, yamaha's can go a long time, but there is a pretty good chance that engine won't last too much longer, and when it does, the cost to repair is far, far above the value of the sled. At least with something like a 600cc 2 stroke, you can put new pistons in for $250 and an hour of labor.
Also, it sounds like that thing needs quite a bit of $$$ put into it, I can find early 2000's arctic cat's in good condition with far fewer miles in that price range.

And the parts are only half of the story. Obviously labor costs, but also, if the sled looks like that, did the owner keep up on any other maintenance, or was their plan to ride it into the ground and then unload it.

Sled does not appear run down. Damage occurred during a storm while the sled was in storage. As for the labor I plan on doing that myself. Thanks for the input

That's an interesting perspective. Myself, I wouldn't buy a 2s with 10k miles but a 4s yes. Crank / crank bearings being my fear with high mileage 2s engines. Perhaps my fears are unfounded. I guess it probably depends on the brand (just say no to any bombi sdi). Although with the Nytro you could be looking at a stator replacement soon, starter motor perhaps, and if the timing chain tensioner hasn't been updated then it is running on borrowed time. But for $1000 or whatever, it isn't such a terrible risk.
