06 RTX Suspension Noise

Hi all. I have a 06 RTX with 1,800 miles on it and owned it since new. When I first rode it new, I noticed that on the small bumps at slow crawling speeds you could here some clunking in the suspension, but now, since I stiffened the stock spring and my dial adjust is set at hardest setting, it's worse than it ever was. If I drive fast and over them the noise goes away. On the big bumps the sled makes no clunking noises and takes the rebound fine, even when jumping. I weigh in at 220 dressed and have since the sled was new. I know I should change the shock spring anyway, but why would the sound get worse after stiffining up the spring. Is the shock blown by chance maybe?

It's the transfer rod and is normal. If you do a search there are posts explaining how to fix this..

I found on my RTX it was Ice build up, made a nasty noise at speeds below 10 mph.  It only did it after riding a few hours in really cold temps.I park in heated garage and it never makes the noise when there is no ice build-up.  I have since installed a plate to cover the exhaust under the skid to reduce ice formation, it works like a charm!!

Never heard my ice sound like a clunk. It's usually the tranfer rod under 10 mph, as the suspension tries to rock back and forth. Speed gets rid of it.

Everytime it happened to me it was ice build up, I don't think the tranfer rod would be doing anything at 5 mph on deceleration. I crawled under the sled every time I heard that noise thinking it was a broken idler wheel, the next day it would not make the noise until riding 5-6 hrs, thats when the ice would build up, hence my shield-no more noise or ice problems, All I am saying is it worked for me!

No, that's great to find what's going on. Many here know the clunk from the rod well. It would only do it going slow over square edged moguls or some stutters that would make the suspension rock. The sound is the rod bottoming on either end. Once you increase speed, the suspension moves up and down as one, and the rod doesn't do much anymore.

Thanks to all who helped out with this issue. I now can ride with confidence once again knowing it's nothing serious and can be quieted down if I feel the need to do it. Think Snow!!!!!
