Can anyone help answer a question I have on my sleds rear suspension? I recently changed my slides to get an early start for next season and after adjusting track I noticed when I pushed down on rear bumper the suspension would compress but would not return upward. Sled has 900 miles on it with olins electronic rear shock. Should I be concerned?

I think it's normal for some of that but email Bruce at Pioneer Powersports and ask him. He's a honest guy and will reply back to you.

Is the sled on flat ground or rollers? if on rollers they will not return.

Set the preload on the rear shock spring. It could have come loose which in turn would give it a lot of sag. If you are over 180lbs I would say to set the measurement of that spring to 10.375". This would be the minimum. Set the rebound to stock setting also.

The sled is on the trailer so it's flat. My rx1 sits a lot higher next to it and returns when pushed down. I'm worried the olins shock may be junk.

What I have found is typically the suspension will naturally settle in under the weight of the sled a bit, so if you pull up the back bumper to unload the suspension and let it go, it will naturally collapse a bit, say an inch or two. The spring over the main shock is what typically sets the ride height of the sled, and I believe with the Ohlins there is likely a mechanical adjuster cam on the shock to increase the pre-load on that spring. The shock could be the issue as well, probably best to get it serviced (seals and new oil) and go from there. At 225, you likely need to increase the pre-load on the spring quite a bit to get the shock working in the proper stroke/range for you. My experience is with a Mono-shock, so not sure if the Ohlins are different, I'm sure others will chime in on that.

Cheers,
Apexallday!

I appreciate the input to my concerns. I will try to set the preload first. My last ride of season was real bumpy and I bottomed out more than normal also my picks did make contact with my rear exchanger. I thought the knocking sound was all the ice build up on my rails and shock. The shock looks brand new with no signs of leakage. I don't know if that's the problem. When I lift up the bumper after compressing the spring it stays up on its own. So setting preloaded I would do this with me off sled or on?

You will want to set preload with your weight on it. I have an XTX so I can't help you, but it may be in your owners manual.

There is a pre-load set up chart for the Ohlins equipped sleds in the Apex FAQ section, under "Suspension" http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=42866
Those setting should give you a starting point.

However, by the sounds of what you are describing about your last ride, with bottoming out and picks hitting the exchanger, your shock must be whooped, the spring is doing all of the work and not the shock. Worth getting the Ohlins rebuilt and maybe re-valved for your weight and riding style, it will transform your ride. Pioneer is your guy to get you set up.

thanks for all the input all. so pioneer seems to be the place you suggest I talk to. does anyone know where and how I get in touch with them?

Thanks for the link to pioneer performance I will give Bruce a call . I was also curious if it makes a difference on what type of grease you should use on the skid pivot points and bushings? I used a grease that was red and sticky. It's good on wheel bearings and heavy equipment but now I'm not so sure it was the right application for my sled.does anyone know if it would be wise to leave it or remove it? Thanks again for any help.
