Man am i so glad i traded in my 08 800xp for my brand new leftover 07 gt,just came back from southern aroostook maine in the sherman area as i have family there,so i know the trails preety good and after the rain on friday night, sat. morning was rock hard, and trails were perfect, now this sled is still bone stock not even studded yet,wow handles great, rides great on smooth trails and ok in rough stuff, and just plain fast, everywhere, whenever i hit in its powerband it just hauls the mail,so far it appears to be my best out of the box apex/attak,it now has 735 miles most are very fast miles and i am still getting 14-15 mpg and on a rr bed between sherman and patton i was able to get it to run 125-129 and record 111 on my gps, when it would run at 128-129 i could feel it spinning from the very hard ice like conditions,so my actual speed for those gps speeds was much closer to 124 dreameter, but reguardless this gt flat out handles and runs great, compared to my doo 8,i had so many little problems with it,that i just had to walk away from the doo everyone thinks is so great. this sled is just turn the key and go,i do kinda miss the studs when things get icy,but it is kinda fun without them as well, well i just checked my belt and carbides for the first time tonight, belt looks great, clutch has shifted fully to the top,or about 1/8 inch from the top which is perfect, but the wearbars, which used to be called carbides lol are well completely shot, after riding down the road to my uncles house to the trail which started out w/ice/snow turned into all dirt, and it was 4 miles each way, well i had some old 6" carbides left from my last apex that just needed to be resharpined and shimed, and wala good to go. Cant wait till our next ride this coming weekend, good thing about this weekend we stay at the motel and ride only snow roads this time lol should be fun as my boys sled is our very fast 06 rtx and if i can hang with his sled well i will feel very good about my trade.

Go to an Iceripper XT track if you want bite for those conditions. No worries of studs ripping out or loss of speed by adding studs.
Hard to beat a Yamaha isn't it? No belt worries, no reliability issues, best engine ever produced to date that 4 cylinder. Life's much easier on a Yamaha. Finding that out the hard way with my Turbo Z1.

I heard through the grape vine you were back Pete!!! Good luck with your new GT. I dragged my buds 1200 renegade this weekend @ mousam and if we both hooked up I would pull him and he could not catch me as stated in the doo Forums. He was getting 88 - 90 mph on the gun and I hit 101 on the gun and 98.5 on GPS. 1000ft strip with approx 300 ft of spinning track. They made a nice attempt on their 1st real 4 stroke.

OH boy, mike after talking with you a little and than watching what it took you to now be able to go very fast,i decided to stay away from the big kitty, although there are still alot of things i do like about it,but you are 100% right about yamaha being a turn key ,dont worrie sled. Glad i bit the bullet and traded now instead of later.KnappAttack said:Go to an Iceripper XT track if you want bite for those conditions. Hi scotty,ya remember we were talking at work, well i had kinda already made up my mind than, just had not worked out all the details till now. Glad you got one of the good ones, and yes i have heard good things about the new 1200 doo,but the bad taste was still in my mouth to take another plunge so soon back to doo's 4-stroke,even though it has a good motor and may handle better than the xp8,i just do not like checking my belt every ride and looking for ways to make them fool proof. Pete, the ride, handling, and wind protection is incredibly good on the Cat. Problem is the money needed to make it perform. I have $4200 in add ons to make it run good and I still worry about the reliability of it. Never had a worry with the Yamaha. Wished it handled and rode like the Cat. I'll be back on my Attak if and when I can sell my Cat too.

Ya i hear you mike, that is why i am glad i did not take the kitty for a ride,as i heard they go sooo good,i had a few cats of the past and there handling was real good, but i have this apex gt handling very good right now, once i get mike carver to do a revalve it may just be the icing on the cake for me,but compared to my 08 xp8 this thing rails, and this is the kind of riding we do the most, long big wide straight a ways and some woods twisties in most groomed trails,if i rode tug hill, well i may just have had to gave up sledding lol, well maybe not but at almost 54 now i am getting just a little tired of mile after mile of bumps, its ok for a short distance of say 20 miles or so,but after that i am headed home.KnappAttack said:Pete, the ride, handling, and wind protection is incredibly good on the Cat.
