Need some 4 stroke info please.
I posted the same question on the 2 stroke side, but no one replied yet.
Anyways,
I am looking at two sleds right now. They are a 07 apex rtx and a 06 apex er.
3 grand difference, so some honest input is appreciated. How do these two sleds stack up together? Top speeds, handling, problems, ride?
Is the hp exacly the same? How do these sleds stack up compared to my 98 srx7 with ride, handling and performance? I don't want to regret my purchase.
Thanks for the comments,
mul.

I own a 07 RTX and have put on 600 miles and I really like it, I based my decision on alot of things but most of all was style of riding.
If your going to pound it, get the RTX, If you are trail riding, save some money.
If you go to the actual Yamaha Motor Sports site you can spec out both sleds.
Are the sleds both brand new, no miles?
Are you buying a Yamaha for sure?

Both are nice sleds but set up for different riding styles. In terms of engine performance, they are the same. The difference is shock package as the RTX comes with Fox Floats up front whilst the ER has the standard Yamaha shocks. The RTX also has the Pro-Active rear suspension whilst the ER has the Mono shock suspension. The RTX is geared towards people that like to jump and bang ditches. So basically the difference comes down to riding style.
If this link works, it should show a comparison of the two sleds from the Yamaha web site.
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/produ ... mpare.aspx
With a $3,000 difference in price, I'd keep the extra money and take the Apex ER. 4000km is nothing on the 150hp EFI engine.
Just make sure the 2006 Apex ER had the hand-warmer bar replacement done. Yamaha offered replacement bars for 2006 models last season for $29 so your hands don't freeze when riding in cold temps.

The RTX is geared down a little bit, so it will have a little bit more on the bottem end and a little bit less on top end, but not a very noticible difference, probably 1 or 2 miles per hour. The handling of both sleds are great, but the RTX will be pretty stiff for the trails, but you can dial in the suspension and shocks on it so it ill be close to the soft riding the ER has. If you like to jump or ditch bang go with the RTX, if you like to cruise on the trails/ lakes go with the ER. But you can still do both with both sleds, they are just set up differently. The 06 Apex's, all across the line had the same problems in 2006, the mudflap was not stiff enough, the handbar warmers never worked good, and some had chaincase problems when the machines were ran hard causing the pressure in the chaincase to build up due to the excess heat causing it to blow out the gasket a little bit and leak out the oil causing the chaincase to blow, but that was rare occasion, and happened to the people that drive very hard i believe. I wouldn't worry about that, cuz i know people with 20,000 kilometers that have had no troubles at all. So the 2007 Apex's have and updated chaincase, a stiffer and better looking mudflap to help keep it from getting sucked into the track when backing up, and the handlebar update. The HP is exactly the same for all the Apex's, and they really move, very fast sleds.. Compared to your old SRX the handling and ride will be much better. The rider forward position and the technology yammy put into these machines is amazing which makes the sled feel light and handle great.. Performace wise i think the Apex is stronger, they are very fast sleds. Don't worry, you will not regret this purchase. You can buy these sleds even without riding them before. When you get on them they are just unreal. You will really really like it, best sled i have ever driven, even better then my ski-doo REV. Go for it, they are great.

Buy either one of them, but IMO please don't buy a Apex GT model. I have had nothing but trouble with the EC shock, luckily I had a 5 year warranty. If i had it to do over again I would buy an RTX, but in your situation I would buy the ER and upgrade the shocks, thats just my .02 Either way you are buying a Yamaha, so it's a win, win situation!!

I have an '06 RTX. I would definately buy the ER and upgrade the shocks. Check around for some fox floats for sale used. $3000.00 is way too much of a difference. The ER front shocks do really suck. I'm sure you can get brand new "left over" ER's (in the U.S.) for about $7000.00. So, the used one shouldn't be more than $5500-$6000.
Other than suspension, graphics, windshield, slight gearing, and mileage, they are identical sleds. I think the '06 rear suspension is as good if not better than the '07....depending on your preference of course.

But you gotta remember the 07 is more money but it also has 2500 less kilometers, and it already has the fox floats and better rear suspension. I'm not really 100% sure what i would do, but i think i would go with the 07 myself becasue it also has the updates as well. Either way is going to be good. Jord

Yes, that may be true. Depends on what they are asking for the ER. Here is what they are going for in the U.S.

I am leaning towards the 07 rtx. If I can swing it.
How would the rtx stack up to 03 ski-doo 800 with porting an pipes?
Thanks,
mul.

2 totally different kind of sleds. The Doo will blast through the really big stuff better, I know, a riding buddy of mine has one and I can't stay with him in the rough with either of my Apex's. The Doo is also a modded 2 smoke which granted will be fast but the Yammi will at least stay with it in a drag race, if not it should get around it a bit, but the Yammi is a lot quieter, and gets far better fuel economy, and reliability. The Apex's handle real well outside of the really crudded up trails. The 07 RTX's rear skid is a slight improvement over the Mono in the rough, but it's not worth 3 grand. I own an ER and a GT, and your smart money is on the ER. The saved cash with buy you an aftermarket suspension down the road. The AD Boivin rear skid works nice I hear. My GT works nice, but it wasn't worth the extra. My ER is just as impressive. One squeeze on the throttle will put a big smile on your face. Jay

I love my '07 ER, your asking for differences between an 03 rev 800 with some mods. Is this a sled your thinking of purchasing or a a machine you may have to contend with. My ER's suspension I find too soft after coming off of an '04 800 X Rev. Not for jumping and such, but for high speed aggressive riding. I'm currently in the process of upgrading the spring, and possibly the shocks in it. You cannot compare those two sleds though if you're thinking of buying one of them. Performance wise, the doo won't run long enough to contend.

I dont feel this thread has enough info to be credible, even though I responded, and now were talking skidoo, come on.
I do think we need to know the actual prices of the 07 RTX & 06 ER and if they are being sold by the same seller and if they were ridden the same way and kept up the same way, and if you wave cash in front of thier face will they take less. My new answer to the origanal question is buy the one you like best, its your money. and always were a helmet.

mulderdad said:My buds sled is a 02 mxz 800 (thought it was 03) with pipes and porting. Not the rev 800. The 07 rtx is 10 g's and the 06 er is 7 g's.
CDN $$$.
with the Canadian dollar up the way it is I would be very selective as to who I am handing ten grand or even seven grand to. totally take your time and look for the sled of you dreams, cause once bought theres no turning back. dont buy a Apex or a Rx1 if you dont like a heavy sled, buy a nitro or a phazer if you want a 4 stroker and want a lighter feel. Bottem line, right now ten grand Canadian or US currency will buy alot of sled if you want to travel, or mabey even in your back yard
