I got my sled out from storage the other day and noticed a little oil under it the next morning. I take it apart today to find oil leaking from the bottom of the oil tank, where the black hose connects. It appears to be tight. I just don't understand how it could leak by the hose clamp.Theres no pressure behind it, right? Maybe the hose has a break in it.Will look closer tommorrow. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks, Honk

Though I haven't heard of it, I wouldn't call that at all strange. It certainly could be coming out of the hoseclamp - if its not *just right*, there could be a small space for oil to get through. More likely though, is that its coming from the junction between the oil tank and the hose fitting - that piece can be removed to reveal a screen. Its sealed with an o-ring. I would think that this o-ring is a likely place for a leak, particularly if that piece isn't on perfectly snug.

I have seen one instance where the o-ring was missing from the factory! It never leaked either. Good to take the elbow off when you change oil the first time to clean the pickup screen anyway. You can't believe how much junk you'll find in there.

Have you changed your oil yet? If so did you do it or a dealer? Check the end of the hose when you remove the elbow, see if there are any slices in it. Thats inside and out, if the inside of the hose is damage it may not seat correctly around the tube. With that, my money is on the O-ring, it may not be seated right, damaged, or not even there.

Check the tank for any hair line crack on the back of the tank. We have cracked 2 or 3 over the past 3 years of racing.

Hey honk,
Mine had the same issue last year at the end of the season. I took the panels off to do the first oil change and found the leak exactly as you described it. I cleaned everything off and let it sit overnight and in the morning it had leaked just sitting there. It looked as if it was coming right thru the pipe where the elbow was formed. I was going to replace it myself since I had it apart, but the dealer didnt have the part in stock and it wasnt going to be in for 2 days. I figured since I was going to have to wait a couple days anyway, I brought it back to them and had it done under warranty. Sure enough, it was leaking right thru the elbow. They fixed ithe leak for free and changed the oil for $41.91. At that price it wasnt even worth doing myself!!
Good luck. I hope you make out as well!

Coondog, I took the bottom hose off, and it looked fine. Then onto the tank and elbow. I filled the elbow up with water and it did not leak. rechecked the tank, and nothing. So I filled the tank with two quarts oil and Bingo! Its leakin in the morning again. So its gotta be the elbow. I'm gonna check with stealer tommorow to see if they have one. Thanks for the info guys!! Honk

It was the elbow all along! The elbow is a strate pipe, then cut like a 45% and brazed/welded to make the angle. It was not welded corectly, and was leakin by. Dealer got a new one for me and no mo leak! First warrenty problem since buying my 03 RX-1! Thanks Guys!! Honk

Make sure your tank does not have a crack in it. Mine did where it mounts. Has happened to other people also. Mine had 2 days of warrenty left and I was leaving for the Gaspe the next day! Dealer took one off a new sled for me! I think the tanks are pretty costly.
The sled had just been operated normally. I don't beat on it either.
I am going to try to put some rubber grommets or something on bolts so there is a little give.
