Here we go....I haveread somethreads an it is not looking good. code 42/84 immediately on startup.NO mileson ecu updatetillwe rodeit10milesthen this shows up. 325 mileson sled.updatesdone-ecu/springs and grounding bar/lug NOW I can't even get a power up, will turn over but no fuel pump and err-1 which tells me no comm between the ecu and the display.

Yamaha says to replace the wiring harness. All sensors and outputs read correct voltage and throttle switch counts, on/off. I pulled the wiring harness and ohmed every wire in the harness-all checked good to wiggle test too. no wiring damage anywhere. rewrapped the harness after cutting the sheathing off it to inspect EVERY wire. I am not gonna replace a harness that isn't bad.

My next course of action is to replace the ecu since the harness is not shorting or anything bad. I can get another ecu for 1/2 the price of a replacement via the recall.

I wouldn't think a speedo sensor code would pop up unless you are moving and this one comes up as soon as it fired with the TORS code. Anyone familiar with this? Thanx for any help.

It seems like a lot of electrical issues have to do with the grounding block. Have a loot at it to make sure it is still good.

That recall was done as well and all grounds to the sensors and outputs grounded and in good shape and ohming perfect. With 325 miles no corrosion. I ordered a module for it. We shall see what happens when it comes in. Don't see what would have shorted an ECU unless the display has gone haywire.

Do you have access to another Phazer to swap ECU's to eliminate the problem?

No donor. Just have to install the ECU when it comes in.
Nothing else controls the code activation if all else is good except the ECU or display.
I appreciate the input. I am hitting walls here.

I had my voltage reg go out on mine and it wreaked havok with the grounding system. key would turn on and display power up but no fuel pump and intermintant error codes on display. I unplugged one side of reg and evrything worked normally. Replaced it and have had no issues since. I do believe mine was caused by a grounding block failure.

Bring it back to the dealer who did the coldstart update. He probably still has your old ECU so he can easily see if ECU is issue.I think it is very rare for a ECU to go bad in anything but in your case that was the last thing done and only 10 mi ago.Odds are that is what is wrong or they did something wrong at time.Either way they should fix it.
