So have had the Phazer since it was first released. Has been reliable with no issues at 5K miles. Mid of last year was out and sled didn't seem to run right. Could only get up to max of 30 mph top speed. Turned around and went back to the land. Luckily made it since I had to run along side it if going up any hills or fields. Got it loaded up and brought back to main house. Doesn't throw any codes and everything is testing fine. Over the summer tore into it. Got new coils, changed plugs, cleaned the fuel injectors and checked all wiring. Took it for a spin on the front lawn and still wouldn't hold any speed. Would die while idling and sounded rough.
I can say that at time before this happened, if we were out and I shut the motor down, it took a little bit to get started again. No backfiring at all. Going to check the exhaust for leaks, but it doesn't sound any louder than normal.
Has anyone else run into this? Should I order a new ECU, or just bring it to the dealer, and have them put it on a scan tool, or is there a scan tool I can get to get better readings, since there are no codes?
Thanks,
Pat

I agree, there isn't much in your description that indicates engine troubles. Maybe there were but they aren't in your post. So I would say make sure your clutches are operating properly, especially belt returning to top of secondary.

Broken secondary spring will cause this issue. It's like trying to take off in 3rd gear on a stickshift, unless you got a Big Block or diesel, that don't work well! The snap ring on the back of the stock secondary is also notorious for coming off and causing issues, same secondary as the old Pogo Phazers. I highly recommend a YVX secondary swap if you can find one off a 95-96 Vmax. 97+ trailing arm secondary's also work with some machining and a custom spacer. Also make sure the throttle is adjusted properly, the TORS may be acting up.

because of the low milage, could fuel return be stuck open causing a pressure drop?

Is it a limp mode no code type problem or does it feel like mechanical (clutch’s ect)?

Thanks guys. Haven't checked back here after posting since been busy with work and considering this sled is just a spare now been out rider the Sidewinder. Will probably tear into it again this weekend as time permits and look at the clutches. Will need to bring the lift home to get it off the ground. Thanks again.

My biggest sign of trouble when I had the running rough wouldn’t hold speed (code 34 ) was popping/bacfiring out the air box.

That is about the same thing I had leading up to this. If I did a run and shut the motor down, I would need to crank it for 3-5 seconds. Other times it would fire right up. It would backfire also, but my biggest thing is that it isn't throwing any codes at all. I was always going after a fuel delivery issue, but you would think it should throw some sort of code.My biggest sign of trouble when I had the running rough wouldn’t hold speed (code 34 ) was popping/bacfiring out the air box.

I updated OP to summarize what I went through. Had no code 34 mainly. I’d see it flicker for split second but just ran rough mostly.
Had to start with throttle (gives code 84 tors)
Ran rough
Getting up to speed sometimes it would clear out and run like a champ
Popping out air box
Every time it happened it got me back home
I will say, leading up to it the number one thing I felt was a stumble getting back on gas or landing a jump/rough bumps. I could feel it coming on every single time it happened. This plagued me for almost entire season.
