I am getting poor mileage on my 2007 phazer mtn lite. Put on 55 miles today and burned 4.5 gallons of fuel, whats the problem or is this normal mileage ?

since its a MTX i would assume you were riding in the deep, thus $hit mileage, i run it to the bar on my nytro ALOT and she loves the fuel!

gas could be an issue if you put in regular. but i'd say you were on the bar most of the time & in loose/powder conditions. (lots of track spin)

it was a decent crust and I wasn't running the sled hard at all, I was only sinking 4 inches at max and it was flat country. Maybe new plugs needed ?

I would say that is about the same as mine for aggressive off trail riding.
I use regular octane some of the time and I feel I get better economy with premium.

I've gotten as low as 10mpg strickly boondocking, usually get 17-22 on the trails.

The nice thing about the Phazer is that I've never been able to get WORSE than 10 mpg, but 18 mpg has only happened twice, both times on longer rides...

I was talking to the lads at the dealer today and the mtn lite clutch comes rigged up for 8000-10000 feet, since I drive at basically sea level my machine is over-revving bad thus the poor mileage. I ordered new weights and a spring for the clutch which has fixed the problem with other mtn models in my area

Also makes some sense there, I had my clutch re-weighted way back in the day for the same reason. Hope it goes better for you now!

What kind of clutching is recommended for U.P riding. My wifes mtx loves to drink the gas. Thanks for any help

I would suggest going to the dealer and asking them, I needed new weights, revets, and springs for mine going to cost around 200 dollars but I would imagine parts are cheaper in the states.

i recommend about 15$ in rivets. Put a 3.6 gram in both holes of the stock weights, it will still rev a bit high but should stay off the limiter and be good for mostly off trail. If it spends more time on trail then put 4.5 gram rivets in the tips instead of 3.6 gram, this will bring the rpms down to ~11,200 on hardpack and low 10k range in the powder. That's the setup I run, along with a 19 tooth upper gear and it works great for an all around, multipurpose Phazer. My best mileage comes at a fast, but not aggressive pace. I usually average over 20mpg if I run in the 50-60mph range and easy/smooth acceleration out of the corners, this motor really likes the 9000-9500rpm range. If I go on a slow 30-40mph family ride I struggle to get 18mpg, usually staying under 8500rpm.CJW said:What kind of clutching is recommended for U.P riding. My wifes mtx loves to drink the gas.
