Hi everyone new to the site just bought an 07 Phazer FX. Pretty much stock with a 1.75 track. Anyway after going for my first ride I realized that the rear shock linkage is definitely broken. I am going to replace the link and heard there are ways to brace the link and arm etc rather than buying the upgrade kit. I can find the posts that talk about this but can't find the posts about what you need to do. Could someone please help me figure out what to do, I'm pretty handy with a welder and its going to be summer right away so lots of time to tinker around.

Congrats on new purchase.
Just got one myself and have spent much time doing all necessary upgrades. Pm me if you run into any problems...I have all struggles fresh in my mind.
Check starter, ball joints, bushings,etc.

Welcome!
Here is where you can go.Look in Suspension and linkage. Is some great posts on both factory and home done fixes.Key to success is proper shock valving especially the rear. You cannot bottom the skid often and expect it to survive.

Alright thanks! I had looked at those posts about the linkage but I guess the pictures never showed up cause I didn't have an account. I see them all now!
look at schmidbrothers website, i think they have pictures of their upgrade kits to help give you some inspiration... I bought a timbersled kit instead of tinkering with the original linkage but thats not the most economical solution
Just brace the arms and eather get tha aluminum link or add lots of material to the original link..

this comes up multiple times a season they must have sold a ton of '07s Just to let you know the aluminum link does NOT fit in a 07 skid it is too wide Just take the broken one out and weld it better than factory which is not that hard they seem to have just tacked it together.

Is this why the new link is available to the '07 owners as a kit? Mine had what they called the skid reinforcement kit, or race kit installed when my link bailed under warranty. I had to cover some labor, but Yamaha put that kit in.
Race kit is different. It has springs, runningboard reinforcements and a few other things. In my opinion this will do nothing to prevent front arm, linketc from benfing and cracking on a 07. You need the pivot kit AND good shocks.

After reading this post, is it true that despite having the updated link, my 07 phazer has a fundamental issue with rear suspension? I bought the sled knowing I would have to do all updates, but thought that suspension would be good once everything was taken care of.
Is the pivot link kit mentioned the one from Schmidt bros. for $29? Looks like they beef up the updated link?

The key is the shocks. Get them right especially the rear and your problems will be over.

Does the shock upgrade also apply to the '07 GT?
If it ever bottoms or kicks you NEED to upgrade or revalve your shocks. Any of them. Some people will never bottom them or have the back end kick like a mule. If that is the case and it rides nice leave them alone and just ride.
