Hi
Totally new to the snowmobiling community. Been a few times with my friend and decided to make the plunge.
So bought a 2007 vector gt for my wife and I have an 03 RX1. My wife's sled seems to be clunking on the rebound when hitting serious bumps, doesn't do it on semi flat terrain. I have a little familiarity with mountain biking suspensions, but none with sleds. Any suggestions? I am thinking that i need to possibly replace the mono shock or have it rebuilt.

Thanks,
bob

The clunking in this vintage of Monoshock skid unfortunately is "par for the course". There is not limiter strap to stop the front of the skid from freefalling after hitting a bump. They added a limiter strap in 2008.

Could your skid be modified to accept a limiter strap? That I have no idea nut one would think you could make something work.

EDIT - OK now I'm confused (easily done). The parts fiches for both 06 and 07 show a "stopper" (limiter strap) on them. I swear they started them in 08!

Bob - I am sorry to confuse the situation for you!!!!

Not sure about the limiter strap, but another factor I think that might be important is that the previous owner probably weighs about 150 lbs. more than my wife. Maybe there is a rebound adjustment that I need to play around with.

Don't think so. There's the Mono spring preload adjustment and another adjustment that I think does even more aggressive preload adjustment. One look under the tunnel to see if there's a limiter strap will tell you a lot.

Yes there is a limiter strap under the 2 pounds of ice that I removed. But it looks intact so far, still cleaning up the area.

Shortened the strap by 2 notches and adjusted the control arm, and the clunking has stopped. :) thank you so much for the tip.

What do you think MCat....broken cable? Never had a sled with the dial.

if you ride these shocks hard then its a good idea to have them rebuilt every 2 or 3 years, even if you baby it, it still needs a rebuild eventually. Its more then likely just getting tired, and while you will have the occasional bump, feeling it all the time is a good indicator you should take it in for a rebuild.

I beat the #*$&@ out of an 07 vector a few weeks ago, and i mean really #*$&@ kicked it and i only had 1 real bump and that was after launching it off a beaver dam

2 years here....both front ski and track shocks. Proper shock valving for rider weight and style of riding is just as important as the rebuild itself......IMO.
