I smashed up my venture recently and am in the process of fixing it, today I got the engine running by using a screwdriver in the place where the key tumblers were. It started right up but constantly surges every 2 seconds. Choke makes no difference (garage is warm) and it is unresponsive to the throttle although it is operating, I can see the arms on the carb move as I apply the throttle. Primary is running nice and true. Any ideas as to the problem? Fluid levels are good. Thanks

Probably the TOR'S.

Likely a messed up throttle or throttle cable from the accident.

Should be throwing a code.

Try turning handlebars in various directions to see if it goes away.

Disconnect TOR'S. Should stop the issue. If it does go looking for the hang up in the throttle system.

I described the crash in another thread but baically a arms on left, rear pivot tube of control rod bent like an L, windshield, hood, carbs knocked off, handle bars broke in two, key switch, mirror. I don't know if it makes any difference or not but I have the red kill switch assembly apart and had to lift the switch manually without the red button and I am starting it with a screwdriver where the key used to be. Where do I disconnect the TORS? I have the hood/dash disconnected so I don't know if there are codes, could the dash being disconnected be the problem?

Instruement cluster being disconnected likely not be an issue as we had one totally out of a RX 1 and it worked fine without the cluster.

TORS Disconnect;

Under where throttle cable joins the carb rack you should see a switch with 2 wires going towards the handlebars. [ one Black and one white usually.] Trace from carbs toward handlebar until you find the connectors. Undo the connectors and fasten the two wires from the carb switch into each other.

Do not forget to hook the TOR'S back up before driving the sled once you have fixed your problem.

It ended up being the clip that holds the throttle cable in place in the throttle lever assembly, it had gotten bent when the cable got pulled out and then the cable would not fully go back in, I removed the clip and bent it back to it's original shape and now it holds the cable in properly and the TORS has been diactivated.
