I bought a used 06 Apex GT with the 5.5 spring added. The shock valving is still the original set up. I read that Yamaha has revalved the 08's and all test rides are stating a great improvement. I have read alot about sending the shock to Pioneer or Hygear for a revalve however I don't think I have enough time to do that at this point. I have two questions

1. At 200lb + gear will an aggresive rider be satisfied with a 5.5 spring and stock 06 valving?

2. With the 5.5 spring do you think I would see satisfactory results in having a local dealer re valve the shock to 08 specs?

I realise that not alot of us have seat time on the 08 yet but thought some may have information on the 08 valving spec and be able to give an educated opinion on my suggestion.

I have an 06 RTX which I added the heavier spring. Last year I would still bottom out and it made the sled have a more "spingier" ride than I liked. I'm 230 without gear. Last Monday night I sent my shock out to Pioneer Performance. I received it back on Friday. From what I've read, it's supposed to make a huge difference.

I'm in the process of research what valving changes need to be made to upgrade to the 7.0KG spring. Valving has to be changed to accomodate the force of the stiffer rate spring, to control the release of the spring. Did Pioneer offer custom valving?

Yes they did. I told them what spring was on it, how much I weigh and how I ride. They actually put the heavier spring on the second C clip. I originally had it on the first. Give Bruce at Pioneer a call.

I called Yamaha Canada today to ask this very question about the shock revalve for 2008 they said that they only did the 2008 40th Anniversary edition Apex and the 2008 RTX no other models have been done for 2008.

You probably won't like the stock ride now so send the shock out.
I sent mine to Hygear and they changed their specs 3 weeks later. But ride is still better than it was.I also added the dual rate spring kit.
Pioneer turn around time is usually pretty quick.
Sooner you send it ,sooner it comes back.
Call them and ask a few questions (ask for Bruce) if you are serious.

I got the same answer from Yamaha Canada for my '08 APEX LTX, I'm checking with SHOCKTEC in Toronto today to see what they have to offer me.

I was checking their website www.shocktec.ca, pretty impressive!

RX1 please let us now what they are able to provide. I tried the link but it didn't work. Sounds like they would be alot closer for me if they are able to provide the same valving upgrades.

I brought my 07 ohlins to pioneer aqnd Bruce did the spring and revalve while I waited. about a twenty mins to a half hour. Very quick!
