I am looking to buy my wife a Nytro RTX for next season. She previously rode a 04 800 Adrenline REV and a 03.5 Blair Morgan X REV that the I had revalve for my weight 250 lbs. She road both sleds well and very confidently. She did not like my Apex as she said it was too heavy and she did not feel comfortable or in control of the sled. I have a feeling she feels better with the rider forward sled postions. She is a good rider and can keep a fast trail place. I want to get her a 4 stroke.

Does anyone's wife ride a Nytro?
How does it compare to a older REV, weight, handling, easy of riding?
Remember this is going to be for a women. I don't want to spend 9K on something she doesn't like. I wish she could ride one, but I don' think that is going to be possible in my area.

Thanks,

PH

Depending on her size, I wouldn't get the RTX. I think many people who jumped on the Nytro RTX were surprised that it is actually a rough trail sled, rather then the Apex RTX's weak attempt. I have both RTX Nytro, and Apex, but my wife has only ridden the Apex so far. She is a very new rider, and will only ride the groomed trails in the northern areas. I agree that the Nytro has a more comanding feel to it, but it may be a little too agressive for a new rider. I gave her the choice, adn she wanted the Apex.
From your post, she sounds like she is a very experienced rider, so I would buy something that she is comfortable on (seating position, etc) and tune/adjust it to her liking. These suspensions are so complicated, yet so adjustable, you can make just about and sled work well for most riders.
I thing the Standard Nytro (black/grey) would be a great choice if she isn't into the jumping, and mashing the rough stuff. I've seen quite a few of those out so far, and everybody seems to agree that it has a much smoother ride than the RTX.

Nate007,

Thanks for the reply! I and she are not worried about a stiff suspension, but more ease of steering effort so she is not trying to muscle the sled around, and the big question does it ride heavy? She loved her REV and could rail it pretty well, but she is not willing to ride a sled that rides heavier for fear of lack of control. Hope this makes sence. I don't want to buy another REV, but if I have to I will.

I would have to say that this sled rides as close to a REV as I've seen, and most of my riding buddies (there are a couple rev's in my group) like the Nytro more than the REV. As far as steering effort, most of that is in the setup of the sled anyway. Be patient, as I've said before, these suspension are very complex, but also very adjustable. Since the Nytro has come out, I personally can't see why anybody would want to stick with a REV. Granted, they are a great sled, and I'll swap anybody with a REV to try my Nytro out, I think the Nytro has more power, and better suspension.

I agree with nate, get her the standard nytro. I love my RTX, but if i had to buy my wife one it's be the standard. If shes used to riding revs she'll be all set. Very similar IMO. The first thing i'd do is change the skis! If most of your riding style is groomed trails , buy her a set of doo's pilot skis. The sled handles incredible and really makes the front end turn with ease. The nytro is a awesome sled!! Good luck man.

It is a whole lotta sled. Would she be riding the Nytro to it's full potential? The steering is heavy, and it hauls butt with stiff suspension. Wouldn't a Phazer be more in the ball park?

After 2 800 REVs I think not.

I've been out with my wife 3 times this year. We have a Nytro and a Vector. She loves the Nytro and I always end up riding the Vector.

Definately get her the base Nytro it is super capable and more comfortable. Why does she like the Nytro?
Seating position
Easy Throttle pull
It looks cool

If your wife liked her Rev she will love a Nytro...

My husband and I each bought an 08 Nytro. We rode Doo for 8 years prior. My last sled was a 03.5 Morgan 800 and prior to that I had an 03 Rev 600 H.O. The Rev Chassis is an amazing chassis and we both loved it. However, the engines were not holding up so, we chose to switch to 4 stroke. After riding Rev's for 4 years, no matter what you switch to, it will be a change. However, switching to the Nytro was an easy transition. The rider foward position is awesome. Sitting to standing is excellent and I actually find it easier on the Nytro than on the Rev to ride standing up. The sled handles beautifully in rough trails and it has amazing power. I love jumping approaches with it and it lands smooth and stable. It lands better than my Rev. We put the tall windshield on our sleds and that helps alot. I don't find it hard to steer but I will have to ride for a season or 2 to really figure out how to handle it really well in the corners. I also think the Fox Floats are too stiff and we will likely revalve them or change them. So, I likely wouldn't buy the RTX next time around. I weigh about 155 lbs, 5'6" and I'm 43. It is a really warm sled because my feet stay warm and the hand/thumb warmers work excellent. 7 of us put on 100 miles in blizzard/50mph winds on Feb 9 for a poker derby and we were not cold and we experienced all types of trail conditions...soft snow, hard pack, rough trail, soft/hard drifts, slower speed, high speeds and I loved every minute of it and my sled handled it all beautifully. I think the Nytro is the right choice for reliability and ergonomics and it's just a matter of a few tweeks to make it perfect. And, you can't believe or beat the power. If you like squeezing the 800, you won't believe the torque on the Nytro.

Exactly what I was after. My wife is going to appreciate seeing this. Any more feedback would be great.

Thanks,

My wife and I both bought Nytro's. She didn't care for the Phazer, just never felt comfortable on it. But she does like the Rev's. She loves the Nytro, and is much faster this year on it. Your wife won't notice a lot of difference from the aggressive riding position that the Rev has, but the Nytro allows you to change positions easier without locking you in like the Rev does.

I wouldn't get her an RTX, I don't know what your wife weighs but the FX would probably be more suited to her.
