I just started checking out this site. Looks like a lot of great info. Have 08 and 12 Nytro's. Friend driving the 08 yesterday and had a stud pull out and go throught the front heat exchanger. How difficult is it to swap? A lot of antifreeze came out. Sled was still running fine when he shut it down. Looks like a little oil as well. Unsure where the oil is from. may just be antifreeze and dirt to look brown? Sled has 4700 on it. I will be getting a new track as well.

Its a big job to change out the exchanger. Skid has to come out and the motor to do it correctly. I hit a rock and ripped a hole in the bottom of mine. I ended up patching it up with some quick set permatex just to get me up and running. It worked very well. I ended up leaving the permatex and added a good layer of JB Weld. Not sure if thgis will work for you but its just a suggestion. I now keep a package of the quick set JB Weld with me at all times. As for the oil it is probably just some oil that has come from the airbox and dripped off of your skidplate. Probably wouldnt hurt to pull the side panels and skidplate to have a closer look tho. Might have a loose filter or drain plug.

Good info.....

Thanks for the info. Would not be a bad idea to keep those items on hand. Looks like I won't attempt the repairs myself. I already found a track and exchanger local. Sam

JB weld has held for me for 5 years now. I cleaned the area very well, and if you use a "Wire Wheel Cleaner" from any parts store to clean and etch the exchanger, the JB will hold. I did mine with the track on.

Have had many exchangers welded in the past. Former owner of my nytro had it happen as well as I can see it was welded. Find someone local that is good with welding aluminum. Usually a local machinist can help you out. Will have to pull suspension and track.

^Weld it up x2

Welding is your best option but if you can't find a welder to fix it jb weld or jb quick weld is also a great way to repair it.
Drain antifreeze. Clean area with a wire brush. Spray with brake cleaner to remove any junk. Apply jb weld. Let dry. Scuff it up and apply a 2nd coat. Done
Did mine like this on my apex 5 years ago and it's still holding great

Welding is definately the most reliable way to go. Just make sure you have all the coolant out of the cooler and clean the weld site very well or you wont get the proper penetration. You will see black smoke and get some popping if the weld site has any contamination. Welding was my first option and i did try that first but the leak wouldnt stop. Permatex seems to be holding strong.

JB Water Weld. Used it on a Ski doo XP and Nytro. This is exactly what it is designed for. You can even put on a wet surface.
