OK you guys with the 08 RTX's, were they really that bad? What would you do? 08 RTX with aftermarket skis, 2 more years warranty saddlebags etc... for $7500 or new RTX SE with 5 year warranty for $9900 otd. ? Were the 08's that bad and do you think the 09's are that much better?

I love my 08. I extened the track to 128 with 153 studs and am running yamaha aggressive skis with shaper bars. It has 1800 miles on it and not one problem.

If you get a chance, pick yourself up the newest issue of Supertrax. It's all about the '09 sleds. There is a pretty big article about the '09 Nytros. They report that the major change is the spindle rake angle to get more tip-up on the skis to take away the "edgey" feel of the front-end. You can get the same effect for free by turning the ski rubbers around on the '08s. That's a savings of $2400 in my book. They also say the Nytro does NOT need new skis, it just needs new carbides, namely duallys.
Supertrax defines the '08s as "too aggressive" for the average rider. That's my personal opinion too. I for one like a sled that goes where I point it. I have only put on a handfull of miles on my RTX, but thought to handing was great. Yes, it hunted in old ski ruts, but I then turned the ski rubbers around & that helped ALOT!! It numbed the "edgey" feel, but still turned razor sharp & this is with the 3.5" stock $hitbag carbides. For next season I will for sure have on a set of dually carbides & then procede to ride the $hit out of the sled.
Save yourself the extra coinage & buy the '08 RTX. That's my humble opinion.

You would be crazy to buy an 08 over an 09!

It's been my view that a guy is better off buying the fist year of a new chassis and keping it until the next new chassis comes out. Had you bought a Rev in '03, you would have had the same basic sled as the new ones for every year until the new XP came out. The minor updates the factory did each year could have been done yourslef if you know how to work on your sled.
So far with the Nytro, aside from the tapered tunnel, I don't see anything to get me excited. Nobody knows for certain if the front clip has been changed. The geometry changes to the front end are not huge and then it sounds debatable whether the changes are actually an improvement for an aggressive rider. I won't be snow checking a new sled.

Id go with the 08 too, for 7500 how can you go wrong? They did have a few issues but as long as you have a warranty its no money out of your pocket.

When you can save this kind of Cake. !! Thats not crazy its smart.
I just tried the 09's.
All the people saying its such a HUGE difference to me are exaggerating grossly.
The 09's almost felt lazy after I've gotten used to the 08. You need new ski's whether its an 08 or 09. So Put some skis on it and do that upper ball joint thing.
I love my 08. But I would trade it for an SE.

I haven't rode a 09 but I was thinking the same thing since the release of the XTX. Even the last issue of snowtech said something like they slowed the steering down on the 09 Nytro's.
Some riders might like the 08's more than the 09's.Superman feb10 said:I see stuff listed like caster softened 4 degrees but how did Yamaha achieve this? in the spindle design or what? If Yamaha's adjustment in caster is what I'm thinking-?-this would make steering less aggressive and more relaxed for the rider. IMO?.

I have seen some 08's under 7000. I think that pays for shock revalving, skis, studs, ball joint fix, flipping rubbers and you still have about 2000 left!!!
